Bleszinski dismisses Gears of War 3 leaks

Claims we're not getting the full story.

Epic Games' Cliff Bleszinski has urged gamers not to take leaked information about Gears of War 3 too seriously.

Yesterday scans of a Russian magazine's Gears 3 preview appeared on the internet, and spoiler-filled translations followed.

"Please don't trust badly translated leaked scanned info on Gears 3. Lots of false info out there," Bleszinski tweeted.

"Gears 3 is nothing like Waterworld, my friends, you're doing it wrong. The Raven's Nest is only one level," he added.

The Raven's Nest is a reference to a giant man-made island built out of warships, which was pictured in the scans.

According to translations, most of the game would take place on and beneath it - the point Bleszinski seemed to dispute.

The translated details also made claims - spoilers ahead - about the game's story and equipment.

Apparently we should expect Marcus Fenix, Dom and Cole to be joined by a now battle-hardened Anya and Marcus' dad, Adam.

The details - gathered by Kotaku prior to the translation thread's deletion on the Epic forums - also mentioned mechs called Silverbacks and refined difficulty levels.

The article reportedly also said to expect more stories in the Gears world following its release, with Gears 3 set to complete Marcus' story.

Gears of War 3 was unveiled last month, has a four-player co-op campaign and the story will be written by Gears novelist Karen Traviss.

The game's due out on 8th April 2011.

Even bigger, better and more badass, presumably.

What with all the denials from Epic over Gears 3, and then reveals of completely the opposite, expect this to be the absolute truth...

I hope he is not lying. Could just use stock "we don't comment on rumor or speculation". A lot companies deny "rumors", only gonna announce the exactly same thing the next month. Is that something related to power or what?

If its not the full story then he should come out and give us the full story!

Clearly it is the full story. Still gonna be great :)

    There is a story?
  • metalangel #10 2 years ago

According to the Gears wiki, the game is set on and around a tropical island called Vectes which was home to a naval base and is now the site of New Jacinto. This is why they have shorter sleeves on their armour, because it ain't 'alf 'ot. To bolster troop numbers there's some kind of new 'supersoldier' procedure for women, hence Anya can now heft a Lancer with the best of them.

And, worryingly, a lot of people think that Dom is gonna die in this one! NOOOOOOOO

Good marketing, keep game in the headlines, leak information here and there, get a headline every week on game sites, pump the hype.

Epic probably gave the information to for it to be leaked. Thye get 2 headllines, the leak then the official reply.

Of course he denies, what else would you do if the game is still a year away and you need people to buy it.
  • TruWari3r #14 2 years ago

Well unless I'm missing something, the only thing he really disputes is the setting, as in the big ship only one level and not the whole game as claimed by the russian mag.

Makes sense though, not one gears game has been in 1 single place.

    @metalangel

The whole island being the new HQ for survivors of Jacinto is covered in one of the books released by the writer of the story for Gears 3. Well worth a read. Jacinto's Remnant (iirc) is the name of the book and kicks off immediately following the final cut-scene of GoW2. I wouldn't surprise me if one or two levels were based around that island setting, however the trailer is littered with ashen corpses so that is definitely not on the island because it wasn't razed by the hammer of dawn attacks (afaik - trying to remember as I red the book months ago).

As usual I expect a little hearsay mixed with truth in that leak. It's stll got a long way to go in production yet, so far its too early to know anything but stuff that may end up getting cut from the final release.

*edit - last sentence re-written for readability*

A bit early to start the hype train isnt it?
I thought this was due out a year from now!
  • metalangel #17 2 years ago

@DAN:SOLO: Nope. I will quite happily grasp eagerly at any good GoW3 news, so long as it doesn't reach the stupidity levels of Fable 3 coverage (newsflash: Molyneux farted into his chair twice today, what does this mean for Fable 3?)
