BioShock 2 MP freezing, patch imminent

Plus: still life in Rapture, says Thomas.

2K Games has acknowledged that BioShock 2 multiplayer is freezing up for a few people and promised to look into it.

"We are aware that some users are experiencing an issue that could cause the game to freeze during the multiplayer component," a spokesperson told Joystiq.

Eurogamer actually experienced this while working on our 8/10 review, losing a good bit of unrecorded XP, but as it only happened once we dismissed it as a blip. Doh.

"We are in direct contact with our first-party partners and are working around the clock in order to provide a fix as soon as possible," the spokesperson added.

In brighter news for the world of BioShock, 2K Marin's creative director Jordan Thomas reckons there's more mileage in Rapture despite the developers having told "two very long, healthy stories in it". It's still "fertile", he told MTV.

"I would not presume to say, 'Here is what happens next.' The needs of a [BioShock] timeline extension are wrapped around whatever creative endeavour demands it."

Check out our BioShock 2 review to see how this creative endeavour turned out, and don't miss our triple-format BioShock 2 face-off if you're stuck for which version to buy.

I'm a Silver subbie so I obviously haven't tried the multiplayer on the 360 (I have on the PC though) but I was getting total freeze ups during the single player... I had two in an hour despite the game running from the HDD. Last night, I decided to clear the HDD cache and I was able to play the game for over 4 hours with no issues. So if anyone is having freezes during the single player then I'd suggest doing that.

Typical Microsoft though, that they'd design a console where a full cache can cause problems with games... how difficult would it be to set the Xbox 360 so that it title updates are stored independently of the cache (like on the PS3) and then make the 360 clear the cache (effectively a temporary folder like with Windows) everytime you load a game? I bet that would have saved their support staff tens of thousands of calls...

ive had problems with the multiplayer
the main one being so and so killed me messages popping up before ive died. probably just bad lag

the other being one of the characters you have to kill glitching into the scenary and completly dissappearing forcing me to return to a save point at least 2 hours back.

the MP in bioshock 2 was so blatantly tacked on it was embarrasing. it offers absolutely nothing apart from plasmids to the MP side of things. almost noone is in the games tht i search for and the most popular mode is capture the sister....which actually sounds like a crime :|

i relly feel tht the single player experience was hampered due to 2k's insistence on including an MP mode. i finished it last night and the whole plot felt so under-developed with many od the charcters u encounter getting little background story. i found over a hundred audio diaries but even then this second step into rapture felt underwelming. i hope they dont do a third one...i relly do. the original bioshock is a classic and there shud never have been a sequel in the 1st place

Yeah I have had lag and disconnection issues and my mate told me to check my Nat Setting even though I knew they were open as I thought it didn't help and low and behold there is a patch coming!

I found the MP ok, but all those game types and it didnt seem easy to find a particular type of game (especially as there are minimal game numbers required).

I also hope they move forward with Bioshock, I like BS2, but i am finding it too much similar to 1.... hoping they have something else to offer as i get further into the game.

On PS3 i havent noticed any MP freezing, but i have had freezes during level loading in SP.

But as for "two very long, healthy stories"? I haven't finished it so I reserve the right to change my opinion, but so far im not impressed with BS2s plot. Or its voice acting, which is generally sub-par. (The actress attempting to do an english/american australian combi-accent, as well as Ryan and Tenenbaums replacements are prime examples)

Sorry about the rant. Gameplay is much better though!

The only issue I've had so far is that one of my friends is on BT and has their evil strict nat router so can't play it at all. Spent all last night trying to set port forwarding up to let him join us.
