Be Origami Killer in Heavy Rain DLC

Cage lets it out of the cage. Selecta.

David Cage has revealed that one episode of Heavy Rain's Chronicles DLC puts you in the body of the Origami Killer himself.

Over the course of an hour you'll uncover the reason for his murderous obsession, Cage told gameblog.fr (helpfully decoded by our friends at Eurogamer France).

Another Chronicle will be based on FBI profiler Norman Jayden, and in it we'll find out where he got his scar and how he became addicted to prescription psychoactive drug Triptocaine.

And there's also the episode starring photographer Madison Paige, who trots off to investigate a taxidermist and unsurprisingly runs into a spot of bother. We'll find out why she can't sleep, too.

The Heavy Rain Chronicles will be around an hour long, according to Cage David, and serve as prequels to the characters in Heavy Rain. Nothing has been said about episodes starring the other two leads, Ethan Mars and Scott Shelby.

Sony announced the Chronicles DLC last year and told us it would comprise of two instalments, both to be available after Heavy Rain's release - 26th February.

    Can't wait for this game, just over a month left.
  • wizlon #2 2 years ago

    Doesn't the HMV special edition include one of these DLC's for free? I'm quite looking forward to this and the prospect of playing as the villain of the piece is quite exciting.
  • Ignatius_Cheese #3 2 years ago

    So has the number of Chronicles/episodes been expanded to more than the original two or does each episode include multiple Chronicles?

    That last paragraph has cufuddled me slightly...

    @ wizlon - Yes, the special edition comes with the first episode, The Taxidermist.

    I think I'll be getting a PS3 for this, providing it's as good as Fahrenheit (which is quite likely at the moment).
  • napalm68 #5 2 years ago

    They keep giving more reasons to wait for a GOY version
  • Singularity #6 2 years ago

    Hugely looking forward to this. It's my most-anticipated game of the year by some margin. Might have to re-buy Farenheit in the meantime, as I even enjoyed the QTEs. (I may be a bit mental.)

    I'm obscenely excited about this. I've gone from completely sceptical to thinking it could be the best game of the generation just from playing through the two scenes at EG Expo and seeing some more stuff revealed. It's going to be a very long 5 weeks.

    @Zomoniac

    Didn't you find the scene in the shop a bit short and disappointing? Having watched some guy do the scrapyard scene (and die on it tee hee) I decided to do the shop scene and was disappointed that it was over so quickly. Still left me wondering:

    a) why he didn't pick up his medication in the end and,
    b) why he just left an unconcious body in the shop (yes, I didn't mess around with jibba jabba).

    It looked nicely polished though and am still looking forward to this game. Really liked the style Fahrenheit brought to the table and looking forward to a fixed version.

    I'm inclined to agree with Zom, for me the most enjoyable part of a game is the story and this game has clearly been developed with the story being the top priority. Maybe not the best game of the whole generation but certainly best of its genre, which I guess would be adventure?

    An hour for each character sounds a little short but I'm sure Cage and his team have made sure that hour is packed with stuff that tells us who these characters are and how they got caught up in the events of the main game. I think this may be the first time where DLC has been talked about prior to release and it's resulted in my being excited about the DLC as well as the game, all I'm waiting to hear about is the pricing and release schedule.

    @M_of_the_sys,

    Not at all. I played through that scene twice and got two completely different endings, and saw a further 3 from watching others play it. It was about 15 minutes long, and there are apparently 60 'scenes' in the game. It was long enough to get the point across.
  • darkmorgado #11 2 years ago

    Isn't the Taxidermist bit what they showed as a demo a while ago, with the woman investigating the house and getting trapped when the guy comes home and realises someone is there?
  • Retroid #12 2 years ago

    So instead of "Press X to not die" it'll be the more-familiar-to-gamers "Press X to kill" :)
  • IronGiant #13 2 years ago

    Cannot wait to get this game, have the HMV special edition on pre-order. Now how long before we get a comment from some knob along the lines of:

    "Oh no i can't buy this if it's got DLC, that means we're not getting the full game included on the disc"

  • Dolly #14 2 years ago

    Oh no i can't buy this if it's got DLC, that means we're not getting the full game included on the disc!
  • Zebula77 #15 2 years ago

    Nice. I don't think there are many games out there that lets you play as the antagonist, and a serial killer to boot. Love the sound of that, and very much looking forward to this one.

    Good first review from OPM UK giving it a 9/10. I cant wait!!!!!!!!!
  • irve77 #17 2 years ago

    Ah , everyone getting hyped about an interactive movie ... wonderful

    That said i loved most of Farenheit

    Won't be excited till i see the reviews ... after which i do hope to put this on my reasons to buy a ps3 list
  • shadow1979 #18 2 years ago

    I hope this is a hit with the mainstream. Quantic Dream need to have some decent exposure, these guys take the time to bring something different to the table. Anyone who takes risks in this industry deserves a medal (more importantly MONEY)
  • DevilsNeverCry #19 2 years ago

    If the chronicles for this game are more than one pound they they can suck on my sack.

    I mean seriously now, everyone is getting all excited about these chronicles and stuff but they are clearly ALREADY MADE and being sold OUTSIDE of the main game, which a lot of people will crack out 39.99 for.

    DLC = fail.
  • M_of_the_sys #20 2 years ago

    @Zomoniac

    Aaah. I didn't have the fortune of another play through. People were queuing and the blue shirted EXPO people were ushering people on after short goes on GOWIII and HR. :-(
  • Ignatius_Cheese #21 2 years ago

    @ DevilsNeverCry - Seriously, get over yourself. David Cage has stated repeatedly that Heavy Rain tells a complete story and the DLC is not directly carved out of the main game but instead gives an insight into how each character was formed...

    And I quote: "The game tells a full story, nothing is missing from it. The approach to DLC was to say, let’s work on prequels. What led the characters to be who they are in Heavy Rain? What happened to them before?"

    Ok sure, he's bound to say that but, unless there are huge chunks of story missing, this is a justifiable form of DLC as opposed to a pure cash-in.
  • EMULOUS #22 2 years ago

    "I hope this is a hit with the mainstream."

    Has it got COD or FIFA somewhere in the title? No? Jobs fucked then.
  • IronGiant #23 2 years ago

    Its had one review so far, 9/10. Sounds like my kind of game ;)

    "Put gaming conventions aside, go in with no expectations other than this is something new and massively good-looking, and you'll be rewarded with a unique experience that lurches between genius and madness, manages to be genuinely emotional, and that you'll be bursting to talk about with your friends. [Feb 2010]"
  • Widge #24 2 years ago

    Thing thing I find about some DLC is that it feels like you're paying for DVD extras sometimes. Half the time I can't be arsed forking out £5 here and there for extra bits of game on top of what I've already paid. Its not like I don't like the games either, Bioshock and Fallout 3 both excellent, my DLC contents to date = 0.

    Damn, I am getting a ps3. This and Yakuza 3 just pushed me over the edge.
