Battlefield 1943 sells over 600,000

Sets records too complicated for headline.

DICE and EA have announced that Battlefield 1943 is the fastest-selling day one and week one downloadable game worldwide in Xbox Live history, and has taken the same accolade on PlayStation Network in North America.

That amounts to more than 600,000 copies sold, apparently. BF1943 costs 1200 Microsoft Points (£10.20 / €14.40) on Live and £9.99 / €12.99 on PSN.

What's more, players of both versions of the game have long since hit the requisite 43 million kills that unlock the fourth map, Coral Sea. Xbox 360 owners managed this in five days, while PS3 fans were only a few days slower, doing so in eight.

Announcing the record-busting numbers, the developer/publisher duo also reminded us that players whose trial versions expired are able to get another 30 minutes of play on both systems as of last weekend.

Check out our Battlefield 1943 review to see what all the fuss is about.

Is that 600K for 360+PS3 or 600K on each ?

Great game. Lots of fun. Deserves to be a success, although not sure about a price difference between platforms. Still, has been a complete bargain for the number of hours played.

Still cant hit shit in the planes.

    DLC! DLC! DLC! DLC!

    Bocage
    Market Garden
    Omaha Beach
    El Alamein

They need to fix it badly though. Knowing that you've got a tank by the balls when you stand behind it with your rpg and then watching your rocket clip right through it = instafail.

One other thing is the AA guns are too powerful, and too short a range, they need to hit targets further out but take twice as long to shoot a plane down, you get a tiny window of opportunity and then it takes 3 shots....it's hardly balanced.

what about the number of people that bought it and couldnt play it for the first 3 days ?
dont suppose they will be throwing that statistic around !
(Yes when its working properly its fun. When its not - its just a laggy pile of kak - I notice they aint showing you the ping anywhere either.. wonder why !! )

@ OllyJ, re-read what you have written.

"One other thing is the AA guns are too powerful, and too short a range, they need to hit targets further out but take twice as long to shoot a plane down, you get a tiny window of opportunity and then it takes 3 shots....it's hardly balanced."

you have short range and as such you do high damage at a short range, because you have such a small window of opportunity.

If they had a longer range they would have toned down the damage... the only point of the AA guns is to hassle planes in that area...

Take Iwo Jima (pretty sure thats the cresent moon shaped island) there is an AA gun in the middle between the airfield and the other cap point. if it had longer range planes wouldnt be able to fly in that area as that AA gun could cover pretty much most of the island...

AA guns also cant aim lower down than horizontal... if you are getting shot at by an AA gun drop to below ground/ship level and your safe...

They still seem a bit unbalanced, they aren't the same as they were in 1942 basically ! ;D

Just be glad that the AA isn't the heat-seeking missiles from BF2.

    *shudder*
  • EvilZub #10 3 years ago

lol, heat seeking missiles that missed your highlighted target and destroyed your teams blackhawk whores for 6x teamkills as well as 2x team vehicle damage.

    Stick with Flak!

Fantastic game and well deserved. Good job Dice.

I'll chime in with the DLC sentiment. Its too early ATM but a month or so down the line it would be nice to have some new stuff.

Having immense fun with this game, but I do wish they would sort out the damn vehicle controls. It isn`t so bad when you are in a tank or a jeep, but flying a plane feels wrong in a very fundamental way. I've been playing this enough now that I`m starting to get a feel for them, but for a game this arcadey it shouldn`t be that much hassle just to keep them in the air.

I do hope that EA, and other publishers as well, sit up and take notice of what can be produced and sold (presumably for profit) at a very low price point without compromising overall quality. I really wasn`t expecting much of this game, but the half hour with the demo soon proved me wrong and it was an instant purchase. Hopefully, if they do release more maps as DLC they won`t start to get all silly over the pricing of those.

i bought it the day it came out played it for 3 days then stopped, its not that i dont like it theres just nothing drawing me to it at the moment

didnt know ps3 had hit the limit though i better go check the map out..

edit: for some reason the flight controls are uninverted from the off, i was like "WTF!?" when i 1st tried flying, unless people like uninverted flying

Let the next project be a port of the Forgotten Hope mod for BF1942, still the best WW2 FPS ever.
  • DUFFKING #15 3 years ago

    BF2's heat seekers were amazing.

I once fired one at an enemy chopper, he launched flares so the first one missed. Fired again, the missile was on track to hit the chopper, when suddenly it did a right angle turn for no apparant reason, and shot down a fully loaded friendly black hawk instead.

Great sub-header for this article ! xD

People are talking about changing aspects of the game but I believe it is fine just the way it is, right down to the plane controls; yes it takes some practise but I now find it extremelyto take out enemy planes, ground troops and bomb enemy vehicles.

Although the lack of team kills took me by surprise considering that this is a Battlefield game I have found it much better with the more user friendly auto heal. No team kills has also meant a better gaming experience in my eyes since the only times that team kills happened where due to glitches or some stupid prick who wanted the jeep before you!
