AVP pre-order goodies will be DLC
Maps available to all eventually.
The quartet of maps exclusive to the Special Edition of Aliens vs. Predator will be offered as DLC to everybody eventually.
That's what Tim Jones, head of art and design at developer Rebellion told VG247.
"Downloadable Content on day one for those who purchase the Special Editions will consist of four brand new multiplayer maps: two new Survivor maps and two for the other multiplayer modes," he said.
"That will become available to everybody else soon after release. As for post-launch DLC, watch this space."
Aliens vs. Predator is out next Friday, 19th February on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. GAME, HMV and Play are offering unique pre-order deals, one of which includes a facehugger toy that surely all children will enjoy.

ign uk gave it a very dubious 8.5 when they admit the game is stuck in 1994...

surely this is a bad idea anyway - splitting the Multiplayers in to those who pre-ordered and those that didn't?

It seems the stupidest kind of pre-order bonus to me. Don't like the idea of not being able to crouch (IGN's Xbox review) but I'm hoping the PC version has this excellent and, apparently, complex feature.
I'll get it either way, 8.5 ain't a bad score and I reckon I'm firmly enough in the rose-tinted glasses section when it comes to AVP that it'll be really enjoyable.

Surely 8.5 is a very good score? Why do people get it into their heads that only 9's and10's are worth playing? Anything over 50% should be a good score, as there is positive outweighing the negative!

... Old school is cool. It's not as if Modern Warfare 2 doesn't repeat its own history for the nth time.

Saying something isn't bad does not mean it isn't good either, it just means it isn't bad. A 10/10 ain't a bad score either.
I was saying "it ain't a bad score" specifically because sfp_noodle called it a "very dubious 8.5". Scanning the review I didn't think it was all that dubious myself and the problems they had with it wouldn't be that big a deal for me because I love the idea of AVP.
Edit: wonky tags

Still getting the game. I bet the average metacritic score will be 70-75%.

Free-for-all was a poor choice for a demo level, and there are a few bugs still in it, but I'm hopeful for the final version to be a little bit more polished, but if you can see past the limited game mode, and get used to the rock/paper/scissors close quarters combat, there's a cracking game engine at work here.
Not sure about players having some maps that others won't - could make matchmaking harder, although, if they release them free to all around the time people get finished with the campaigns - say 2 - 3 weeks after release - it's not a big deal. They will be free to all eventually won't they??

it's not even close to competing with games like Bad Company 2, but its Multiplayer is a unique and fun.

You definitely have a point. On the other hand, the game most definitely will not die. Few multiplayer games manage to die out entirely. Either they have multiplayer modes that are downright painful to play, or their multiplayer wasn't the focus of the game.
At worst, it'll be somewhat underpopulated. But dead? Fortunately not.

no 51% would outweigh the negatives.
