First-person "tweedpunk robo-horror" game Sir, You Are Being Hunted has taken to Kickstarter, which recently launched in the UK.
Headed by Rock, Paper, Shotgun scribe Jim Rossignol and AVSEQ creator James Carey at Big Robot, Sir, You Are Being Hunted is a procedurally generated stealth/survival game about avoiding foppish robotic homicidal huntsmen on an archipelago.
Your goal will be to amass the missing components of your ship to escape the dreary moor. Doing so will require you to stay hidden, scavenge for supplies, and use your materials (such as weapons, traps, booze, marmalade, dead rabbits, and tea) to set up distractions and evade your aristocratic adversaries.
"Sir, You Are Being Hunted gathers up elements of our favourite things: exploration, non-linearity, AI interaction, survival, robots, sinister butlers, and hot drinks, and blends them into a rich pixelly pulp," said Big Robot on the Kickstarter.
The game is already far along in development with plenty of gameplay footage available, but all the art is placeholder and Big Robot would like to hire a full-time artist to spruce up the game's visuals and animations. "The robots need quality animations, and lots of them, which does not come cheap," the studio explained.
Big Robot would also like to use the funds to flesh out the robots' AI. "Furnishing our robots with intelligence and personality is no simple task, and we need time and money to get on with it."
Pledges of £10 will be rewarded with a DRM free copy of the game when it's released tentatively in July, £18 bumps it up to a special edition with a digital grimoire containing lore and concept art, £30 grants early access to the game in its testing phase, and big spenders who donate £1000 will get their name written into the game's lore with a hard copy of the lorebook commemorating their generosity.
Currently the pledge total comes to £15,321 of its £40,000 goal with 29 days to go before the 2nd December deadline.
Sir, You Are Being Hunted is scheduled for release on PC, Mac and Linux in July, 2013.
