QuakeCon 2012 dates announced
Will Doom 4 get its first public airing?
This year's QuakeCon - the annual id Software clambake - takes place in Dallas, Texas 2nd to 5th August, Bethesda has announced.
Getting out there might not be too cheap, but if you do make it entry to the event itself is free of charge. See the official QuakeCon site for more details of how to get in.
As usual, the event will take over the Hilton Anatole Hotel and host North America's largest LAN party, though specific details on exactly what else will be on show have not yet been announced.
With Rage finally out the door, id Software boss John Carmack recently confirmed that the studio can now concentrate solely on the long-awaited Doom 4. Will we be getting our first glimpse of the game during this year's QuakeCon?

Will be interesting to see where they go with Doom 4. Thought 3 was pretty unfairly criticised (the flashlight thing was a pretty novel gameplay device in my book) and a few of its innovations ignored; it was the first game with interactive computer screens and control panels (before then it was 'press the giant red button' or 'pull the big lever').

Great game w/ incredible tech.
Hope the roll out some DLC & a DM mode asap!

The greatest graphical achievement of Rage wasn't to make stunning images (although it did a nice job there, at least outdoors), but how it managed to deliver rock-solid ultra-smooth 60fps in practically any situation. That is quite impressive and I think idtech5 remains a force to be reckoned with in the future, and I too are curious what it'll be able to do with 30fps.
But it's really a bad move by Bethesda to restrain it from licensing, even more so as id apparently developed it to be particularly dev-friendly, probably with a lot of licensing in mind.
That said, I'd love to see a Carmack-driven Elder Scrolls game. That would (and will?) be kickarse.

And my personal hope was for something like a new Fallout using the engine. Definitely a shame that they can't license it out though
