Ghost Recon: Future Soldier delayed until May

Plus, Ubisoft confirms PC version and console beta.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, the latest entry in Ubisoft's tactical shooter series has been delayed until 24th May.

The game had originally been announced for a March release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, though the development team has decided it needs a little more time.

"We're pretty much there. We just want to take that extra couple of months to make sure your experience is perfect," explained the game's development director Adrien Lacey via a YouTube announcement today.

Lacey also seized the moment to confirm that a PC version of the game is in the works - despite word to the contrary late last year - and a multiplayer beta will go live on consoles prior to launch.

For more on the follow up to 2007's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 take a look at the trailer below.

I wonder if Splinter Cell Conviction owners still get access to the promised better. So long ago.

Ubisoft have had a lot of time on this which most of their games need but I think this has been to the drawing board more than once while watching the success of COD and BF3. It could end up a right mess. Still looked a bit rubbish last time it was shown. We don't need more future hud. It's was overkill last time and even more so now.

I expect the less than stellar sales then the inevitable Ubisoft PR not long after. We're going back to Ghost Recon's roots with more pure game play without all the gimmicks and in your face hud, it's what the fans want. Yay.

Having not seen much of this game, and after watching the video, it looks a bit more like Army Of Two than Ghost Recon. Also the graphics are a bit too bright and colourful compared to the gritty reality of the advanced warfighter games.

I had a feeling that they would change their mind about the pc version of the game and it seems I was right. They provoked too much bad publicity by their actions. As far as I am concerned, too little too late.

The game had originally been announced for a March release ... We just want to take that extra couple of months ... are you f'n kidding me? The game was originally announced for spring 2010. Then it went to spring 2011. Then it went to spring 2012. And now you need a couple of extra months?

Why is it coming onto PC? Leave the pirates, concentrate on the consoles. UBISOFT need to grow a backbone and stop pandering to PC hooligans.

Really like the look of some of the ideas for this. I like BF3's suppression, but it's too easy to still take out the person suppressing. But then the cover system in GRFS makes the suppression system work better, not sure how BF3 could have improved it. I also like the idea of team mates being near cutting the intel stealing/interaction times in half - forces squad play.

    Sorry Ubi, no backsies!

Makes no odds how long they delay it, it's not for me, they're changing too much of GRAW for my liking, and I fear change.

Translate -> we dont want to release a sub par game in the same window as Mass Effect 3, Max Payne 3 and Diablo 3 who will suck the air out of the market like RDR did.

Get fucked Ubisoft. I wouldn't even take the effort of pirating your shitty games. Arrogant greedy French fucks.

Destroyed Rainbow Six... Crapped on Splinter Cell... I don't expect anything from Ghost Recon now that Ubisoft has ruined some of my favorite franchises of all time.

Rainbow Six 3; Black Arrow, Splinter Cell, SC: Pandora Tomorrow, Ghost Recon 1 and 2 etc... Their names are dragged through the mud when Ubisoft brings out more of this bullshit.

This game has been delayed soo many times I'm not surprised its happened again. I hope the same thing doesn't happen to the next Rainbow Six Game.

I'm not sold on the new far'ish future setting either as I prefered when it was 10 years odd in advance and a bit more believable. I know there are a load of 1st person modern shooters now but I think being a 3rd person tactical shooter differenciates it enough.

It's coming to PC now? I guess they didn't get the buzz around their crappy "free" to play thing they were hoping.

Still with their new offline mode I am at least buying from PC favourite Ubi again so I'll keep an eye on it...but last time I saw it it had that awful let's write all over the environment nonsense from Splinter Cell Conviction. Hopefully they've changed that.

@WizenWolfBain - I think it's unfair to say Rainbow 6 Vegas and Splinter Cell Conviction were bad games just because you didn't like them. Personally I loved both games and think they needed to make the changes they did for the series to survive.

Since Chaos Theory and until Conviction the Splinter Cell games have been dire. Conviction needed to evolve its stealth mechanics and if Ubi kept making games to appeal to a niece fan base these games would not be around anymore so stop complaining.

@goondocks74 I fear you may be right. I don't mind them changing the engine or gameplay mechanics but the setting is just soo wrong imo...
