Capcom teases new Dead Rising game

Frank West packing for "my new adventure".

Capcom has teased a new Dead Rising game.

A post on the Dead Rising Facebook page suggests the mystery new game stars photojournalist Frank West, the protagonist of the first Dead Rising and spin-off Dead Rising 2: Off the Record.

The post reads: "I'm getting packing for my new adventure - camera, notebook and baseball bat. What else would i need for a break in paradise? - Frank"

Could Dead Rising 3 be set for a Spike Video Game Awards reveal at the weekend only two months after the launch of Off the Record? Or is another downloadable Dead Rising game similar to Case West in the works?

    I love Dead Rising but the only way I'll bite is if its a complete upgrade over previous games. I don't want Ultimate Dead Rising 2: Super off the Record.

    Faaaaaaaaantastic.

    (Maybe he's already sick of being top tier in UMvC3)

    I'm a massive fan of the first 2 Dead Rising game and can overlook a lot of their pervceived issues. But even I'm finding it difficult to get excited about another Dead Rising game so soon after the rather ropey 'Off the Record'.

    It's going to need a big overhaul of the engine, or I fear Capcom will have run this game into the ground before long.

    I hope it's Dead Rising 3. I quite liked DR off the record, it's only an expansion of the 2nd but that's all I wanted. £14 to play through DR2 again for the first time with alot additional content. I don't k ow what people are complaining about. More people have spent more for four multiplayer maps...

    @supermaniacs Is this how it's going to be now, comments threads filled with irritating memes like IGN?

    What's the matter Whitster, somebody steal your sweet roll?

    @Whitster

    Show some respect. He's covered wars y'know.

    Chuck Greene is so much better than Frank West. Poor Chuck :cry:

    Frank off on a trip to 'paradise'? I think they should call it "Dead Island".
  • tachometer #13 6 months ago

    Perhaps it's a reference to Frank's voice actor doing the next GTA

    Frank's got red on him.

    Aye he's still got to rescue Isabella from Phenotrans so hopefully that'll feature in the new game. He sure as hell ain't gonna find her fighting Rocket Raccoon.

    I'm expecting a big twist like that Phenotrans is a subsidiary of Umbrella and they have a Wesker clone somewhere. Maybe even have Jill and Chris as survivors.

    Zombies. On a holiday island? That wouldnt work
  • George-Roper #17 6 months ago

    Dead Island is now the zombie daddy.

    Capcom, you need to be aiming that high. Another rehash, reusing 99% of the same assets in DR2 simply will not work. Gamers are onto you, now.

    With the Dead Rising 1 PS3 port never actually leaving the planning stage my only real experience of Frank West was in Off The Record, but because that game does a sort of "years later" take on an already established character I didn't have all of the context to explain why he is the way he is and as such found him quite difficult to like. Still need to finish so maybe he'll sway me later on.

    As for Dead Rising 3, after Dead Island I'm not sure there's room for Dead Rising in the zombie-kill-fest genre without some pretty major improvements being made first, not sure what those improvements should be though. A choice of characters perhaps? Maybe an RPG-like skills/level system so we get a little customisation beyond mere cosmetics like clothing. There's definite room for improvement in terms of the mechanics.

    I didn't get Off the record, why didn't they just redo DR1 for PS3 and PC with DR2's mechanics instead or even add it DR Off the record?

    Dead rising 2: off the record was a cheap cash in (typical capcom) the slight change in story was not good enough imo.

    the problem is instead of the 3rd getting the development time it needs, I bet they will rush it out for next year. Its like Ass. creed revelations, despite 5 studios working on it, the yearly release produced not as big as improvement from the 1st to 2nd game.

    @Murton

    DR1 is an Inafune game. A port ain't happening because Capcom really, really would not like to remember that they employed that guy.

    I loved the first Dead Rising. Dead Rising 2 was ok, but i dunno it just lost something for me.

    I think it was that feeling of the zombie apocalypse. I know the first one wasn't exactly serious but I think I prefer it as a game (even though the second one has better mechanics)
