Cult indie platformer coming to eShop.

Revered, rock hard indie platformer VVVVVV is on its way to the 3DS eShop, publisher Nicalis has announced.

The handheld version of the PC original (trailered below) adds 3D visuals, six unique levels and a level map on the 3DS's bottom screen. Future content updates are also promised.

The game is due for release in late 2011, with no price set as of yet.

Originally released back in 2010 on the PC, Terry Cavanagh's retro-fabulous jumper picked up a glowing 8/10 endorsement from Eurogamer's Oli Welsh. Peruse his VVVVVV review for details.

Well, this will be mine. Absolutely.

Let's just hope it doesn't take a year to come out in Europe, like Cave Story Wii.

At what price though? I have been impressed with the eshop on the 3DS, I have been less impressed with the prices. Whilst certain prices in themselves have been okay, when compared to similar games on other platforms the price is excessive. I do not know if this is a particular pricing strategy by Nintendo but a business model where you are offering essentially the same service for a much greater price is not going to impress consumers.

Along with the BIT.TRIP games this will test the strength of my 3DS to it's limits as I bounce it across the room in frustration. It'll be good to have the 'back when real games were proper hard' type games back for the masses to weep uncontrollably together on ^__^

@Stuz359: I guess an 8 euro price point would be well worth it, considering the game goes for 5 euro on Steam and Nintendo probably asks for a bigger cut. 10 euro would be kinda stretching it, considering on the PC version you can load user levels too. But if they are really gonna add content updates, I would get it anyway.

I paid �20 for the Humble Indie and that included 4-5 other games. I know i got a bargain but I'll bet the 3DS in about �8-9.

Now that's an unexpected delight for the eShop. With this and Cave Story, they'd do well to keep the momentum going and get some other indie classics on there. Give the 3DS and eShop a better reputation for a change.

Great news! I love this game, and have no qualms about buying it again. After all, I never got the 'Doing things the hard way' trinket last time, so now I have no excuse.

I love this game and I am going to buy it day one on the 3ds. Its difficult but the frequent checkpoints are perfectly placed to stop it being frustrating

The one game that convinced me to go back & pay more then 0.1p for the Indie Bundle

The graphics are a homage to the 8bit graphics of C64 and Speccy. I think they look excellent.
