Deus Ex: Human Revolution DLC outed

The Missing Link due in October.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution gets a DLC add-on called The Missing Link later this year.

As reported by Siliconera, resourceful users dug up mention of the pack in the official website's RSS XML.

According to the blurb found therein, the campaign expansion sees protagonist Adam Jensen attempting to escape from a mysterious freighter, only minus his augmentations. You'll have to rebuild his powers, explore "sprawling" new environments and interact with a cast of new characters.

"We are very excited for Deus Ex: Human Revolution fans to be able to complete Adam's journey in the game with The Missing Link DLC," read an apparent comment from producer David Anfossi.

"Gamers will be able to experience a vulnerable side of Adam like never before, which gives the overall game a whole new dimension. The Missing Link propels players into compelling gameplay, beginning with Adam being stripped of his use of augmentations, new, visually stunning environments and the continuation of Deus Ex: Human Revolution's conspiracy rich story."

An official announcement has since appeared on the site, stating that the add-on will be out in October.

Awesome, just finished it the other day and I was hoping for some DLC.
  • AidyD #2 9 months ago

Wonder what context the dlc will fit in plot wise... But yea cant wait for this, completed it the other day and was googling around for dlc like an addict scrambling around an alley looking for some leftover heroin.

    *****spoilers*****

obviously this fits into the game where Jensen gets into the coffin box thing and goes off the grid for a few days.

Reminds me of the assassins creed DLC that obviously gets made for the games release, then removed so we can get fleeced.

Dont get me wrong I will be buying it as I am desperate for more deus ex, just a little underhanded by the developers

'like'? Yeah pull the other one.

Good stuff - I'm playing this a lot, getting every scrap I can from the environments before moving on. I suspect I'm going to be playing for a long time!

The devs have already commented on stuff they wanted to put in (does stuff that might've been in it potentially spoil things for players? just in case: They wanted Montreal to be a full on city hub, as well as Upper Hengshua, but it was too much work to get it all done in time). This isn't any of it.

@grayn You misunderstand me. What I was inferring was that this DLC was made and completed and should have been in the original game, then they removed it so they can charge people a few months down the line. Its a horrid practice really that has sadly become the norm.

    @vibroguy

And you know this how, exactly? Given that there is normally at least a good couple of months between a game being declared "finished" and then going on sale, Devs now mainly use that time to create extra content.

@virboguy: if you're going to put in spoilers, FFS...put in spoilers! you muppet arsebiscuit!

    @vibroguy

I got 30 hours out of the game, so I'm not worried about a little cut content being polished up post release, to be honest.

I finished earlier today, started another playthrough immediately. Best game of the generation as far as I'm concerned. Not enough games like this are released these days, especially when its peers are all rushing to remove any hint of depth.
  • MatMan562 #11 9 months ago

This is very welcome for me and I haven't even finished the main game yet, 23 glorious hours in though.
  • Hantheman #12 9 months ago

Love the game, but couldn't they have just shipped with this? It only came out a week ago!
  • xuiton #13 9 months ago

wow the game has only been out 5 minutes and they are already releasing DLC...

Gamers will be able to experience a vulnerable side of Adam like never before

Bout time, I'm tired of wondering round as an unstoppable killing machine. Only just before I was wading through enemy gunfire whilst using nothing more than my trusty stun gun. I was sort of like that bit in Highlander II where they are in that car and get shot to bits. I'M INVINCIBLE!!!!

Only joking, some dude sneezed and jensen dropped dead. Already a bit of a glass cannon
  • AidyD #15 9 months ago

    @vibroguy

Yea I did think that at first, but not sure how that would fit into story, as he didnt need to escape the freighter, in the story he just kept inside the box thing until the box was delivered.

  • Shikasama #16 9 months ago

Ah, the old DLC trick of 'strip him of everything he did in the actual game, make him weaker with an arbitrary handicap because thats the only way we can think of a challenge' gig.
  • metalangel #17 9 months ago

This isn't going to be the same freighter we later blow up in the first Deus Ex game, is it?

The PRCS Wall Cloud, it was called, having just looked it up. Having to run back to escape with everything shaking and the klaxons blaring was damned exciting back in the day.

"Ah, the old DLC trick of 'strip him of everything he did in the actual game, make him weaker with an arbitrary handicap because thats the only way we can think of a challenge' gig."

This. It's an RPG at heart, removing the very things that incentivise you to continue playing is incredibly annoying. DLC's that start off by doing this need to have an FMV of Jim Bowen saying "here's what you could have won".
  • DUFFMAN5 #19 9 months ago

Jesus. Buy it or don't buy it, it really is that simple. If you enjoyed the game as many, many people seem to have done then this is great news. If you got 20+ hours out of the game (£2 per hour, not bad) then sell it/trade it and move along.

I have no problem with DLC, in fact I love when we get it in SP games. So it is ready a month or so after release and...?

I would rather that, than have to wait until the GTA IV add ons, luckily they were brilliant.

I will be buying all Deus Ex dlc, even horse armour.
  • menage #20 9 months ago

Yeah, strip away my carefully sought out augments will you. That sounds like fun.

Jeez, how come DLC always ends up with the crap ideas. I can think of dozens but they almost always end up shit (except Shivering Isles and Point Lookout, that's the stuff I want)

  • RedSparrows #21 9 months ago

I'd far rather DLC was confined to Shivering Isles-esque expansions only.

    Not asking for much ;)

Looks like I'll wait until they release a GotY edition some time next year, so that it will include all of the DLC in one package. I'll do the same with Skyrim, as my time will be swallowed up by Battlefield 3.
  • Daeltaja #24 9 months ago

Cool, will be all over this like a rash.
  • RNX-Lanky #25 9 months ago

As long as I can access it without having to get to that stage in the game (for a third time), would be great to get some new action.

p.s. Add in some new take-downs please!
  • CaptainTrips #26 9 months ago

More Human Revolution is clearly a good thing, but the lack of augmentations does worry me a bit - the best parts of HR are when you're fucking shit up with cyborg powers, while the worst are when you don't have any at all...

Also, does the description remind anyone else of a Metroid game? :p
  • GozuTennai #27 9 months ago

If only the bloody CG trailer wasnt so much better than the game, dammit!

I just finished the game as of 10 minutes ago and the first thing I did afterward was watch the CG trailer again.
How I expected the game to be as good I dont know but I did. That pose with the clenched fist after adam spins that guy round by his head had me standing up out of nowhere lol.

Yelena and barret looked so awesome and the music was half the impact of the thing too............................ I'll stop now lol.
  • Bennicus #28 9 months ago

Doesn't removing augmentations just turn it into a clunky shooter with bad stealth bits? Perhaps they could come up with some interesting *new* augs for the next DLC.
  • TheDarkFurie #29 9 months ago

Interestingly this doesn't use an existing save, so it'll be a stand alone story of sorts. Maybe this will link to the original game more. I'm very interested in the "experiments" taking place on the ship that were mentioned originally.

Here's the new release for those that haven't read it.
The Deus Ex: Human Revolution conspiracy grows deeper in The Missing Link. During Adam's quest for the truth in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, he mysteriously vanishes for three days. Where was he? What did he find out? The Missing Link reveals it all.

After being tortured by Belltower agents and having his augmentations disabled, Adam Jensen must rely solely on his basic capabilities to escape from a freighter, destined for an unknown location. While fighting for his survival on the ship, he uncovers another layer to the conspiracy that he never would have suspected. As Adam, befriend new, mysterious allies and fight ruthless enemies to discover what was happening in the shadows during the events of Deus Ex: Human Revolution!

    -New layers of conspiracy unveiled
    -Sprawling new environments
    -Brand-new characters to interact with
-Rebuild Adam's augmentation set from scratch. Build up a brand new Adam!

What is The Missing Link? You'll find out soon...

Wait, it says you have to " rebuild his powers?"

What the fuck? Do they mean I start from scratch to build it all up again?
That would requrie the DLC to be rich in content and it needs to be a very long plot, too.

    Hard to imagine really

"We are very excited for Deus Ex: Human Revolution fans to be able to complete Adam's journey in the game with The Missing Link DLC"

Funny that, I'm usually excited to be able to complete my characters journey in the game *that I already bought*.
  • azazel_fallenangel #32 9 months ago

It took me the entire campaign, and I never collected all the augments, either this DLC is very long(and thus worth some cash...) or you get very few augments...
Not too enthusiastic about that part.
Still, having just completed it on normal, and started again on hard, I will be looking forward to getting some more DXHR in a few months time :-)
  • Zebula77 #33 9 months ago

I hope this will be made available from the main menu, as opposed to in one of the city hubs. I'm on my second playthrough and I've already passed the hubs. Don't feel like starting a new game just to play the DLC.

    Sounds interesting, though.
  • RustyBullet #34 9 months ago

Bollox completed it the other day and thought nahhh there wont be any dlc so i traded it in. Oh well, will have to buy a pre owned copy when it comes out as the game was mint.
