Crysis 2 racks up three million sales
Dead Space 2, Dragon Age II pass 2m.
FPS sequel Crysis 2 has now sold in three million copies worldwide, publisher EA has announced.
Portal 2, Dead Space 2 and Dragon Age II, meanwhile, have all broken the two million mark, while FIFA 11 nears 15 million units and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 nine million.
The numbers come from EA's fiscal Q1 earnings report, which saw the publisher log non-GAAP net revenue of $524 million, down slightly from $539 million this time last year. Digital revenue was picked out as a highlight though, increasing 11 per cent to $209 million.
"This was another solid quarter driven by both digital and packaged goods," commented CEO John Riccitiello.
"We saw strong digital revenue growth over the prior year. On packaged goods, NCAA is off to a great start and pre-orders for Battlefield 3 are tracking extremely well."

Oh, and I agree CaptainQuint, Crytek's communication is absolutely appalling. Can't believe you were negged down by some fanboy +1

Masses of sales indicate that consumers don't mind, and they are certainly some good games, but I've been attracted to the indie developers recently for something new and interesting instead.

Oh stop being so bloody elitist. A good game is a good game. Does a '2' on the front make it any less good? No it doesn't. Does it make it less original? Perhaps, but originality doesn't always mean better or even good. You're missing out on so much in the world if you let such narrow minded preconceptions cloud your judgement.

so next year we'll get Dead Space 3, Dragon Age 3, Mass Effect 3.....
And they talking about innovation, big pretenders. At least Activision fair and square about their never-ending CoD sequels.

Crytek are c*nts for life after they so cynically abandoned so early on what is genuinely a good game online; beneath the horrible matchmaking and glaring bugs.
I will remember their treatment - I can promise you now I won't buy another of their games again. Welcome to Rental Land, Crytek.

Portal and BFBC2 were both deserving though. Those were wise customer decisions.

Nice job raising the bar there. You really don't look like a moron at all.
As for the yapping about new ip, are we forgetting that Crysis, Dead Space and Dragon Age pretty much are new IP? People cry about sequels all the time, but EA are hardly the worst offenders. For that, look to Nintendo. Yet i rarely see anyone crying that mario galaxy isn't a new ip, do i? Why is that? I'll tell you why, its rank hypocrisy. As others have said, if a good game is a good game, why does it matter if it has a 2 on the end, unless all you're looking to do is try and show you're somehow a more refined gamer, because there isn't an new IP.
New IP comes out all the time, and sinks like a stone. Look at shadows of the damned, bulletstorm, vanquished, enslaved, etc. All new ip, all sinking. Why is that? I'll tell you why, because a lot of people aren't prepared to sink 40-60 bucks into something they don't know, unless its amazing. New IP is a risk. Instead of blaming developers like some spoiled kid, have a look at the market. There are reasons for everything, none of which are right or wrong. This whole, it can only be good if its indie nonsense annoys me greatly. Being indie isn't a fast track to gaming sainthood. The reality is, given half a chance, if these guys hit a multi million dollar level, they'd emmulate the behaviour of EA and Activision in a heartbeat, even if they didnt want to. They'd HAVE to in order to survive.
Be greatful for the fact we got some great games. I loved dead space 2 and DA2. I really liked crysis 2, but lets not pretend it was anything on Crysis 1.

I cared, er, 6 years ago. Wasn't all that great though, tbh.

Crysis 2 was fundamentally a great game in sp and mp, thats why they bought it. Unfortunately it was full of bugs and half finished by all accounts. The first third of game feels tacked on and suffers more issues with frame rates than rest of entire game .

Raaarrgh!!! Second hand sales are killing the industry!! Piracy is bankrupting developers and publishers!!! The only way to stop EA from crashing and burning is to keep fucking our customers with online passes and day-one, and pre-order DLC. Oh wait, we just made half a billion dollars, I guess we don't need to keep shaving away at consumers rights anymore, right?
Not. A. Fucking. Chance.

3-million Crysis 2 plus 2-million each for Portal 2, Dead Space 2 and Dragon Age II is only 9-million for the 'gamer' market.
EA claim pre-orders of Battlefield 3 are ten time BC2, so perhaps they are expecting sales ten time more.
I wonder which part of the market EA are going to focus on? Also, maybe make 'gamer' games more 'casual' perhaps?
