inFamous dev making new PS3 game

Is it inFamous 3?

inFamous developer Sucker Punch is advertising for staff to work on a new PlayStation 3 game.

As outlined on the Sucker Punch Productions website, the developer is looking for an art director, a senior producer, a lead sound designer and a senior game designer for its next game.

The senior producer job listing on Gamasutra only mentions the PlayStation 3 under "platforms".

So, what is Sucker Punch up to?

Is it inFamous 3?

Last year Sucker Punch told Eurogamer it would give "serious thought" to a request from Sony to create a third game in the superhero series.

"We'll see where we want to go next," Sucker Punch co-founder Bruce Oberg said.

"That could be with Sony. We have a great relationship with them. We love the PlayStation platform. I'm not lying when I tell you it's a really killer technological platform for us to work on.

"The support and marketing, and also their approach to us, to let us make the game we want to make, is really incredible. Our relationship with Sony has been just incredible, all through the Sly series and all through inFamous."

Independent studio Sucker Punch does not own the inFamous intellectual property – an arrangement it described as a "small price to pay" for the "freedom to make the game we want to make".

Or could Sucker Punch be hiring for a brand new IP?

I hope it is, I love inFamous. Just as long as it isnt rushed :)

I doubt it's Infamous 3...... Well, the ending(s) of the second game were kind of definitive and I don't think Sucker Punch will undermine them for the sake of a sequel. I could be wrong of course, especially considering the success of Infamous 2.

    Come on inFAMOUS 3!!!
  • liquid-s #5 11 months ago

Infamous was good with alot of potential. Infamous 2 was brilliant and built on everything the first game created and added to it nicely. Really, really enjoyed playing both games and would be happy to see a third but I'd also be happy to see a new IP to.

@nazzyq: the lightning strike on Cole's coffin at the end of credits (good ending) is pretty indicative of a resurrection, I think...

How has infamous 2 sold so far?

A sequel? I say bring it!

Given sucker punch being so close with Sony and all, maybe infamous 3 will be a PS4 launch title? They only said "playstation", not PS3...
  • liquid-s #10 11 months ago

@Golgo I thought exactly the same to.
  • the_dudefather #11 11 months ago

Infamous 2 is great, but think a 3rd would be a bit boring unless they change things up a bit more
  • Darren #12 11 months ago

I thought they were working on Sly 4...? Could it be that?
  • HyperTails #13 11 months ago

I'd like to see them do a new IP. InFamous is great and all that, but like Naughty Dog once Uncharted 3's done and dusted, they have the talent to release a top tier new IP. Then come back to InFamous in a few years, rather than milking the cow.

Haven't got InFamous 2 yet either. Getting it soon... hope its as good as the original.
  • Markitron #14 11 months ago

Id agree with Olemak, id love to see infamous 3 as a launch title for PS4, with them making a new IP next
  • Murton #15 11 months ago

@NazzyQ - I dunno, either ending in inFamous 2 could allow for a sequel

In the good ending the boat is struck by lightning before Cole is buried at sea, possible that the lightning strike brings him back to life as it were while in the evil ending he's still alive and running around America activating conduits, possible to use that ending as a launchpad and have the NSA complete the RFI and remove Cole's beastly powers without killing him

Could be inFamous 3, could be a new IP, could be a new Sly game as the statement specifically mentions that series. Whatever it is in the midst of all these closures and layoffs I'm glad this studio still has a future as the improvements between inFamous and its sequel are nothing short of astonishing and losing this studio wouldn't just be a blow for PS3 fans but the industry as a whole.

Before I read the comments can anyone confirm that there isnt any spoilers.
  • Redflooch #18 11 months ago

If it is a new IP, I hope it will have as good a premise as infamous does. None of this online rubbish. I just want to see a great single player dev make another great single player game.
  • ZizouFC #19 11 months ago

Fuck! Why did I read the spoilers in this topic!? Spoiler tags are just too tempting....
  • schnide #20 11 months ago

    @customfirmware

Just don't read the spoiler tags!!

InFamous 2 was a genuine improvement on the first, and playing them back to back (thanks for the freebie Sony! :D) highlighted what a well written story arc they had set up, and an improved moveset to support it.

Great attention to detail on all levels, more please :D
  • thiagots85 #22 11 months ago

@Murton. Fair enough, that lightning strike could have resurrected Cole. But, where could the story go on from there? All conduits are dead in the good ending, so what kind of threat could Cole face in the next game? Let's also consider the evil ending, where Cole is supremely powerful and is activating conduits all over the US. How would that manifest itself in terms of gameplay? Especially considering the fact that the first two games were limited to a one-city setting. I would love to see an Infamous 3, but I'm struggling to see how it would work unless SP introduce a new protagonist and an alternate universe. Or perhaps they could pull a Prototype 2 and task a new conduit with taking down evil Cole?

    InFamous 3,fall 2012.

No wonder that Sly 4 is outsourced.
  • Ahskay #26 11 months ago

That ending is not definitive. If you play evil you will see the ending is very open and wants you to have a sequel to continue that story. It's far from over from there, it's the beginning of the apocalypse with cole as a fifth horsemen if you want a comparison.
If there is a new Infamous i would like them to continue from there and not from the good ending.

inFamous 3 would be more than welcome, but if they go multiplat that would be cool too
  • WinterSnowblind #28 11 months ago

The good side ending is in no way definitive either.
Not only does a lightning bolt strike where Cole was, but it's visibly shaped like a question mark.

That said, I'd rather they took a break from inFamous. My only real complaint with the second game was that it wasn't much of a leap from the original. It'd be great to see them work on some new titles and then come back to inFamous in a few years. It'd be a great way to launch the PS4.

Just finished Infamous 2 today actually (good ending) -- really enjoyed it, and I thought it was a good step up from the original in terms of graphics, powers, etc.

If there is an Infamous 3 (I expect there will be) I would like to see a slightly more flowing design structure, a bit more effort put into the feel of the gameworld (i.e. the NPCs look and feel very artificial and robotic when compared to RDR or AC:B). I also hope they use Euphoria or Havok to build in a proper physics engine; particularly on the characters.
  • makeamazing #30 11 months ago

The engine to I2 was certainly a big step up and the game is great also (nearly finished the good ending)... dont mind me some more Infamous, though i can wait, perhaps for PS4 launch would be nice :)
  • freethinker101 #31 11 months ago

Why are people giving away the ending? Some people, like myself, are still playing the game. Looks at them and sighs.
