Mass Effect 3 Kinect support rumoured

EA image suggests E3 reveal.

Will you be able to play upcoming science fiction role-playing game Mass Effect 3 with motion-sensing add-on Kinect? A new image – discovered on publisher EA's own website – suggests so.

The box art, which supposedly popped up on EA's online store before being removed, was first spotted by a forum goer on NeoGAF.

"Better with Kinect" it reads.

Photoshop job? As Destructoid points out, the image remains on EA's servers.

If true, how could Mass Effect 3 work with Kinect?

Eurogamer was last month told Microsoft plans to "serve the hardcore" with Kinect-related announcements during its E3 2011 press conference.

    Galactic map navigation?

Yes, yes, yes, let the revolution begin.

    Optional support could be excellent.

The same with PS Move - in fact - I'd opt for a PS Move version unless the Kinect controls turned out to be AMAZING.

A quote from the Bioware boss Greg Zeschuk from a report last year..

"We're not going to do a party game, we're not going to do Dance Dance Krogan for Mass Effect. The reality is it's going to have a really positive impact.

"There's that impediment of a controller but hardcore gamers are never going to give that up.

"It might be nice to see a hybrid of a controller used with additional gesture on the side for immersive elements.

Very interested to find out more at E3, we already know kinect can detect smiles etc as avatar kinect will be releasing soon with this tech, the mass effect conversation system maybe making use of the users facial expressions would be interesting. I dont mean smile for yes and frown for no but the game taking into account the current expression of the user to make character react more realistically

    ^ Exactly.

We could really do with a TRUE split control pad, with gyros, accelerometer, rumble and pointer, but without losing the RIGHT ANALOGUE STICK!

It needs to keep all of its current Xbox functionality, but add the motion tech. Couple that with a 720p accelerated Z-camera, and I see the best motion tech so far. Best of both worlds, and controls that work with EVERY game out there.

So long as it's used for fluff elements like map control or to issue voice commands to your team, it should be good. It might be ok for your biotics, make you feel even more like a jedi with a blaster.

Just keep it to a minimum.

Hmm, honestly they should improve gameplay and story with the extra effort rather than ad some gimmick feature.
I tought something was fishy when they canceld the multiplayer for ME3 and they still insisted that they want more "mass appeal effect". The thing is that I don't see kinect being used for much other than some idiotic minigames and maybe navigation probably some space battles.

Woooo alien boobie fondling motion controls honk honk

That box art is terrible. Red Faction : Mass Effect? When will video game box art get the love it deserves?
  • bladdard #11 12 months ago

You hover your hand for 5 seconds over your dialog choice during conversations. ;)

Joking before the negtards go mental.
  • ubergine #12 12 months ago

Kinect can recognize gestures right? Like me giving EA the finger?
  • munki83 #13 12 months ago

@Embar I think the box art looks a bit like space cod
  • coolbritannia #14 12 months ago

Yay, I loves me some Kinect. Though Kinect is clearly better as a hybrid control option.
  • andywilkie35 #15 12 months ago

Please don't cheapen the experience with this Kinect shit.
  • BadBoyBonner #16 12 months ago

By reading the dialogue of Shepard ourselves and voice recognition identifying which bit of dialogue we have chosen?
  • Lord_BeeJee #17 12 months ago

Leave the kinect crap out of my games please, theres a casual market for that.
  • ISmoke #18 12 months ago

As long as it doesn't ruin my most anticipated game I'm all for more features.

Saying that I'll be playing on PC so it means nothing to me at all, really.

FLAIL people FLAIL. THE END IS NEAR!
  • Yuroko #20 12 months ago

Hopefully I can waggle my penis at the xbox during the inevitable sex scene with Wrex.
  • BadBoyBonner #21 12 months ago

    @Yuroko

I feel sure Mass Effect 3 will not include a penis waggle prevention device so you should be fine!

My dream is a box that can detect my body language to an event in rpg, and respond accordingly. That would be amazing.

Also pleasntly surprised at the lack of 'omg fail biowares' so far.

I'm intrigued to see what comes up. Kinnect star map interaction would be top, and the abilty for it to detect my body lagnauge, and facial expressions during conversation would be pretty fucking sweet, but i know thats pretty close to a pipe drema.
  • Tryhard #23 12 months ago

    Kinect sex scenes.Oh my.
  • TheRealBadabing #24 12 months ago

Maybe you have to mime being on a treadmill to generate enough minerals for upgrades.
  • MiY4MOTO #25 12 months ago

    +1 for Ryze & Widge

The galactic map would be a logical extension for Kinect, as could some of the hacking / lock picking mini-games. I just hope that whatever they do is thought out and integrated sensibly. Not just "tacked on".
  • onyxbox #26 12 months ago

Wave your right hand for Good Action wave your left hand for Bad Action or... you know... just press a button.
  • Xardan #27 12 months ago

Kinect support doesnt bother me but it being on the box art does.
  • geeza2020 #28 12 months ago

As long as its not mandatory for any parts of the game, go for it. I wont be using it though, thats for sure. I like being able to y'know, control my character accurately and be able to actually interact with a UI. I'm crazy like that though.
  • galaxy366 #29 12 months ago

Able to fuck Tali? or the other womans... Nah
  • darleysam #30 12 months ago

You won't be 'playing it with Kinect'. I expect it'll be a rail-shooter minigame thing. Let's exercise some common-sense, here.

raise right hand to be renegade, raise left hand to be paragon.

Anything that is kind of "mouse" control it would work. I tried out the PS3 ME2 after completing on PC and I just couldn't play it. The ability to use the mouse to go round menus and access abilities was key. I don't think Move and Kinect can do quite the same thing but it's better than just pad.

If they do this right, it may be the thing to make me buy Kinect. If.
