Fix incoming for buggy Crysis 2 demo

Users report freezing, server drop-outs.

Crysis 2 developer Crytek is working on a patch to address a number of bugs in the game's Xbox 360-exclusive demo.

Since the demo launched on Xbox Live yesterday, users have reported regularly being disconnected from the game's servers and screen freezing during the online matchmaking process.

A post on the developer's forums today, spotted by Joystiq, read, "We are paying close attention to the forums and online discussion. It's good to see many players having a great time. However, we do understand that a few players are having technical issues with the demo. We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible, we apologise if it is affecting your experience."

The full, ideally bug-free version of Crytek's FPS sequel launches on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 25th March.

This was working absolutely fine yesterday but today I can only managed to play 3 out of 15 games. Multiplayer is great fun, I hope they fix this soon.

Looking on their forums it seems the issue is with wireless connections, switching to a wired connection solves it.

A patch for a demo lol! Mind you, when the game works normally it looks distinctly average. In fact it felt like a COD clone with futuristic weaponry and the stealth 'perk' made it a bit too easy to sneak up on enemies. Pretty much every player was using it. Things aren't looking good for this game atm. I've never gamed on a PC and don't intend to but this is one game that should have remained a PC exclusive. The graphics are terribly watered down from the original and the gameplay is generic. It could, and in my eyes should have been so much more than that.

Anyone who says this game is crap hasn't played the demo long enough. It's great fun when you can get a game, controls nicely and doesn't look half as bad as people are making out.

I'm on a wired connection and have had real problems getting connected to games so don't think the problem is wireless.
  • Collymilad #5 1 year ago

I cant even get ON it at all.

It just searches for games forever.

EDIT: Also wired. All other games work no problem, so it's not me/my computer before the apologists appear :p

Mine did have to search for a while to get a game, but I had no problems whatsoever once I was playing. Pretty good game too.

Can't say I've had any issues, but it's nice to see even a demo is important to fix and patch up ASAP, good show Crytek.

please fix the lag time in the controls before shipment crytek, this is an imperative
  • NewbieZilla #9 1 year ago

Sad, sad times that a fix is needed for a demo.

I have a bad feeling about the 360 only getting a Demo,

Does this mean that PS3 might not get bug tested as well?

And I suspect it also means that the PC version is going to be heavily heavily gimped compared to the Original Crysis. If not a demo, would expect them to of shown screenshots and videos of a Console Vs PC comparison by now, to reassure the PC community that they're sticking by their word of keeping the standard high. But nope... nothing.

patching bugs from demos is a crazy new low, not very promising for the launch is it?
  • MattEdWithCheese #12 1 year ago

@inutaihanyou the controls aren't laggy, all you need to do is raise the sensitivity in the options menu

    honestly...
  • NewbieZilla #13 1 year ago

Why did people neg gjgjg? Are there really people inspired by a demo needing fixes? It seems some visitors to Eurogamer might be dangerous. If only they possessed a brain.

Patching games before release is now a bad thing?

Would rather they get out the fixes now than a week after launch.

They are laggy mate, it's not the sensitivity , I've adjusted that too, it's response time between buttons being pressed and things happening on screen that's off. Ign noted this in their preview of it, and they had much mote extensive hands on with various stages etc.

The actual lag online isn't helping issue though, maybe making it worse than the controls actually are. Ign and another site( can't remember which) suggested they might need to drop detail of graphics to up frame rate so the respOnse lag is lessened

Lucky me, I've not had a single laggy match and I'm rank 10.

I guess it's not as clear-cut as some make it out to be.

I have to ask, why would one want to play a game from a developer that has made it their mission to bring next years hardware to its knees on hardware that is five years old?
  • DefendoCroc #19 1 year ago

@Newbzilla "Why did people neg gjgjg?" .... because for some reason this place is a bastion for fanboys who wont hear a single thing said about there current favourite game .. its pretty sad (but probably repsresents this sites age demographics).

I like the crysis demo but it has to be said its very very ropey, took me and my mates at least 10 minutes are pissin around last night before we all got into one game ... and then it was so laggy we had to leave :( , wish they would bite the bullet and go for dedicated servers because the xboxlive match making system is getting worse and worse and i only really buy games for the MP.

Call of Halo is what it feels like.

Get the Quick Stealth, Proximity Alert and Side Pocket perks, loadout with a shotgun, and you are a god amongst men. It hasn't been balanced right.

Not inspired by the demo, although it is just a demo.

Movement feels clunky and weapons don't feel as though they're packing enough punch when fired. Suppose they can tweek things pre-release, although if you have Halo, Cod or Battlefield I can't see Cyrsis 2 as an improvment on multiplayer.

Will wait and see how the full release goes.

I see another Activision vs EA lawsuit around the corner. How can a company get away with such a blatant rip-off? Not only is the fact that it's so similar to COD a shame for the game itself, but also a sad indication of the direction gaming is going - chuck out another vanilla FPS shooter with perks and killstreaks and you have a licence to print money, apparently. If this sells like hotcakes then there really is no hope!

Amazing how obvious the fanboys are here - carlito says a similar, condensed version of what Zedfragg said. The latter got +3, the former -3.

I agree with them both. Truly disappointing, and not worth the download.
