Take-Two schedule forgets Max Payne 3

2011 release looks unlikely.

A 2011 release for Max Payne 3 is looking increasingly unlikely after publisher Take-Two left it off its latest release slate.

Yesterday, the company gave investors a taster of what it had lined up for the next year or so when it released its latest set of financials. Its planed launch schedule looks like this:

  • L.A. Noire (Xbox 360, PS3): Spring 2011
  • Top Spin 4 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii): Fiscal Q4 2011
  • Major League Baseball 2K11 (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, PC): Fiscal Q4 2011
  • Duke Nukem Forever (Xbox 360, PS3, PC): Calendar Year 2011
  • Spec Ops: The Line (Xbox 360, PS3, PC): Fiscal Year 2012
  • XCOM (Xbox 360, PC): Fiscal Year 2012
  • BioShock Infinite (Xbox 360, PS3, PC): Calendar Year 2012

The one game noticeable by its absence was Max Payne 3. The game was delayed indefinitely back in June after missing both its planned early 2010 release and then its revised Autumn date.

Fast forward to December and there is still no news on when we'll be seeing Rockstar's promised threequel.

A spokesperson for Take-Two told Eurogamer that it had no further news to impart regarding the game, confirming a new release date was yet to be confirmed.

Probably went back to the drawing board after the fan reaction to last years screenshots.

On the bright side, LA Noire and DNF will do for the time being.

I'm not that bothered really, Max Payne 1&2 were alright but I'm not exactly gagging for another, is anyone? More saddening is from that schedule I can assume all hope of RDR PC is gone.

I'll wait another 6 months but then I guess it's sadly cheap 2nd hand console fodder for RDR :(

    I smell a cancelled game.

It was late, dark, my pulse was screaming, there was no escape in sight and the endless alley whispered... "reboot".

Duke Nukem Forever Calendar Year 2011?

    Here we go again...

    @Golgo

Erm, not really, this is what they said when it was re-annouced at PAX.

I love Rockstar but sometimes I wish Remedy was still involved in Max Payne.

Hope they took this one back to the drawing board. Max Payne 3 just didn't looklike a Max Payne game.

Sorry I haven't kept up with this. When did Remedy give up dev responsibilities?

"A 2011 release for Max Payne 3 is looking increasingly unlikely after publisher Take-Two left it off its latest release slate."

    Then at the bottom:

"Max Payne 3 is due to be released 2011 on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Got a news tip? Email news@eurogamer.net."

    Well done, EG.

My first thought was that it's gone back to the drawing board as well, so it probably has. Either that or it's been binned.

Can't imagine them holding it off for a whole year for any other reason.

    Give it back to Remedy!

Even though I wasn't keen on the jungle setting as it seems worlds apart from what I think Max Payne is, I was still glad one was in the pipeline. Will we even see it now? Fuck knows.

Hopefully this means they will make a E3 presentation saying, "Here's the max payne you all wanted and asked for" then they show an epic gothic style max payne back in New York.....or at least that's what im hoping for...cause the so-called max payne 3 they showed screenshots off, was completely SHIT!

Remedy is too excited about making an Alan Wake sequel to be bothered with a new Max Payne anyway. The way Alan Wake felt reminded me a lot of Max Payne though; the controls and other little design details I mean.

Sure thing T2 knows that any changes from traditional series' features won't get a warm hospitality. And they know what we want from Max Payne.

Why not to make a game everybody expects? Instead they would hasitate for 7 years...
