PS3 Castlevania save patch "incoming"

Hours of game progress at stake.

Konami has assured disgruntled owners of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow on PS3 that a patch to fix a worrying problem is "incoming".

Some users reported being prompted with a message telling them, "Save file corrupt, will now overwrite, press X to continue," according to Joystiq.

In response, Konami tweeted: "Fear not, Vampire Killers. A patch for the PS3 save issue affecting Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is incoming. We'll update on availability."

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was released earlier this month. Review scores were high and consumers happily threw their cash at the game. The result? Konami has already commissioned a sequel.

Christian Donlan judged Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for Eurogamer.

The first 15 minutes of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

Wow, I didn't even know about this. I've been busy enough with Demon's Souls so I'm only on Castelvania's 4th map, but I think I'll hold off until the patch now.
  • Goodfella #2 2 years ago

I heard about it the other day but thankfully haven't been affected so far. Apparently it happens when you go to play the game again (after switching it off) so when I quit the game I backup the save before turning the console of, just in case.

OMG :o I would be sceared if I got that message.

edit/ p.s seriously why the negs and no luv? I really would be sceared if I got that message coz I put in about 8 hours gameplay on the hardest difficulty, it's not a knock against the PS3 platform I have had corrputed save data for my GBA with Pokemon Ruby, same feeling I was sceared thinking about it happening to another game on the GBA, that's not a knock against that system. Had a ton of save corruption/ deletion on my Super NES and my original Pokemon Silver won't save anymore because when I play again the file is erased (I think the battery has died) - so im not knocking the PS3, SNES, GBA or Gameboy Colour.

Reguardless of system, would you like to put in 8 hours gameplay and think of the possibility of save file corruption?

    Another killer PS3 exclusive.
  • menage #5 2 years ago

Damn, I'm not touching it again until the patch now.

Don't corrupted saves usually happen when people quit the game during an auto save? I haven't picked this up yet but I've read that the game does auto save frequently.
  • bluem4gic #7 2 years ago

Don't quit during autosave and you won't have this probelm
  • TopKatt #8 2 years ago

    ^^

I genuinely have no idea, why are you not surprised?
  • fm5858 #9 2 years ago

    Why am I surprised?
  • Mr.Monkey #10 2 years ago

Poo... 9 times out of ten I get the 360 version for multi-format...
The rare time I pick the PS3 version and it's got save game gremlins. Hopefully the patch will be out before the LE is released.
(some bizzare reason the date for that was put back few weeks - bloody GAME)
  • NOSAVIOUR #11 2 years ago

Almost picked this up for the PS3 but as ever stuck with the my 360. I've not even noticed andy significant frame rate troubles.
  • sonicyoda #12 2 years ago

    Who's Andy Significant?
  • Beano #13 2 years ago

Until the patch arrives, if we get the "Save file corrupt, will now overwrite, press X to continue"-message, we just have to restart the game to avoid the save game to be deleted?

  • GamesConnoisseur #14 2 years ago

Will I be negged too if I owns up to be another usually-gone-for-x360-but-went-with-PS3-instead crowd?!

Can see it as possibly nagged by either xbox or PS zealots, for being not loyal enough. Damn brand loyaty gamers should pick and choose what they want by whatever system, alternating, all on one or other.

Corrupted save data ON whatever platform is fugly nightmare, who wants to see all the efforts being erased out?!
  • des #15 2 years ago

funny how no reviewer mentioned something about that...good thing is that the game flopped at retail
    nobody cares
  • Goodfella #16 2 years ago

Flopped? Do you deliberately go out of your way to be an annoying idiot?
  • dwalker109 #17 2 years ago

^^^ A quick glance at the Zavvi panel on the right will tell you that this game is currently sat at #7 in their charts, sandwiched between various football franchises and "Tom Clancy collects royalties from this" games.

Hardly a flop in anybody's books.
  • muscleblade #18 2 years ago

This should have been in the face off. LOL. No seriously this happened to me in VF5 after hundreds of fights won so i feel sorry for the ones affected.
  • RandomTerrain #19 2 years ago

Ah good news. Saves me having to constantly back up my save.
Over half way through and not seen any problems yet mind you.
  • 5h1nj1 #20 2 years ago

2Toadie48: You probably got "negged" because of your terrible grammar. I mean, come on, "sceared"?
  • Master09 #21 2 years ago

Konami have really been disappointing this gen.

Crap after crap they have been dishing out other than the MGS games.
  • TopKatt #22 2 years ago

    ^^

Well sell it then mate, why hold on to something you "hate"?
  • bradley-strider #23 2 years ago

This game needs some serious overhaul...save game patch is not enough...FRAMERATE and SHAKY CAM FIX pls...seriously i had never expected that in 2010 a game with a well known IP can be this technically flawed...
I will never buy on thing from Mercury Steam again if they leave it at that.
  • Goodfella #24 2 years ago

    @TSB

You tell me, is being at no.6 in the charts, up against two massive football franchises, considered a flop?

What's your definition of flop and success?

Also, there are a lot more countries than just the UK.
  • man.the.king #25 2 years ago

Like LowEnergyCycle, I wasn't even aware about this until this article - I have the CLOS Limited Ed. Does this happen at a certain point in the game? I'm just on the second CLOS map now (still going through Enslaved PS3).

"It's about time 'des' was taken out back and shot, the drooling idiot. "

Yes, he has become rabid - he should be put down :)
  • FuzzyDuck #27 2 years ago

F**kin' charming if you don't have the intertubes, inn't?
  • Goodfella #28 2 years ago

Would you believe it, played the game this evening and I was on the final boss and got the 'Unhandled Error' message which this article pertains to. The game froze with this message but fortunately I was able to get back to the XMB by pressing the home button.

Booted the game up and my save was fine, phew. I would have been fuming if my save corrupted on the final boss!

Apparently, this is where the error is most common.
  • Goodfella #29 2 years ago

Hmm, you're a bit of a smug one aren't you.

Firstly, des is a well known troll, but then you didn't bother to take more than a cursory glance at member activity did you.

Secondly, what makes you such an expert?

Without any financial figures on development costs, worldwide sales, future sales and so on, neither you nor I are in any position to say the game is a flop or otherwise, but then, I didn't actually state the game was a flop or a success, did I.
  • Goodfella #30 2 years ago

Ok, I haven't looked into how the game has performed, why should I be doing that anyway?, It appears to be doing quite well from the little info I have to go on (friends who have it, GameFAQ's which has a large forum for the game, etc) and they are making a sequel.

Thing is, you say I shouldn't be so defensive but then why are you being so offensive?

Some troll just spouting that it's flopped, followed by you saying only 19,000 copies were sold means nothing. Where did you even get that figure? If VGCharts are to be believed then they've sold 57,000 copies between both formats in Europe.

So, where are your concrete facts? You must be really proud of all your research that confirms this game as a flop.

Also, thanks for the lesson in psychology and the analysis of my day to day behaviour, at least that has topped up your smug levels a bit more.

25h1nj1 - Thank you :) - LOL I didn't even realise i'd spelled it wrong. I will try harder when commenting to make sure my grammar is decent. I thought people were negging me because they hate me lol.
