Aliens: Colonial Marines still alive

Gearbox shines a light.

Resurrected first-person shooter Duke Nukem Forever might have been the talk of PAX over the weekend, but developer Gearbox Software still found time to reassure gamers that its other in-development title, Aliens: Colonial Marines, is still alive.

CEO Randy Pitchford flashed screenshots of the SEGA published game during a panel during the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle over the weekend (reported by Kotaku).

According to the site, Pitchford said Gearbox "is continuing to work with Aliens movie studio 20th Century Fox and Aliens games publisher Sega to bring the project along".

Unfortunately, he failed to mention a release date.

The last we heard of Colonial Marines, it was being pushed back to six to 12 months after the launch of Rebellion's Aliens vs. Predator.

That game launched in February this year, which probably means Colonial Marines will see the light of day in 2011.

Apparently the success of AVP was to determine the release timing of Colonial Marines.

We had been promised a "late 2008" release for Colonial before it was pushed into 2009, and then 2010.

This has potential to be excellent and with the develepor just working on one playable species rather than three, perhaps the gameplay will prove better than the latest AvP did

Sega need to release this. They can't judge it's success based on the awful AVP.

Its a good thing they do actually since AVP sold amazingly well considering the mediocre critical reception.

    You secure that shit, Hudson.

It's a case of balance. If Gearbox are actually serious about releasing Duke Nukem Forever they need another title to take its place in development hell. I look forward to buying this when it comes out in mid 2020.

    did the quotes start yet??

Daniel: Hey, what kind of belt do you have?
Miyagi: Canvas. JC Penney, $3.98. You like?
    Daniel: [laughs] No, I meant...
Miyagi: In Okinawa, belt mean no need rope to hold up pants.
    [laughs; then, seriously]
    Miyagi: Daniel-san...
    [taps his head]
    Miyagi: Karate here.
    [taps his heart]
    Miyagi: Karate here.
    [points to his belt]
    Miyagi: Karate never here. Understand?

Gearbox are not the best developers in the world, so I won't get too excited.

They're still a hell of a lot better than Rebellion. AvP may have sold surprisingly well, but I bet a Rebellion-developed sequel would fare less well.

If this is only half as good as borderlands I'm buying it!

Loved AvP, Love Borderlands. Whoopee-fuckin'-do. Hey, I'm impressed Aliens and Gearbox surely will mean good things.

A day with Gearbox is like a day on the farm. Every game's a banquet! Every Aliens news a fortune! Every release a parade! I LOVE Gearbox!

Just no. In the announcement back in late 2006 they stated that they were aiming for a 2009 release. So no we were never promised a ny 2008 release, nor any promise at all. Cant you be bothered doing any research at all????

Thank christ, saw some early footage of this somewhere about a year ago and it looked great. The guy playing it had to switch between his motion tracker and his gun, made it very atmospheric.

If this has been delayed again because of Duke Nukem I'm going to sh*T a brick...

...or just post on internet forums as if my rage actually matters.
  • muttler #20 1 year ago

Early this year there were rumours that this game was almost finished but it was delayed so as not to clash with AvP. I guess they wouldn't want to release it Q3 2010 either as it would clash with Halo: Reach, or November because of COD: BO. I'm hoping for December 2010.

AVP wasn't awful in its design. The game is great; it is the structures surrounding the game, the foundation, that sucked. All the great concepts were wasted.

Sega sucks as a publisher. It is even worse than Activision, just less high profile and doesnt have anyone like Kotick to piss people off. But their practices are horrible, if AVP is any example to go by. Only 6 maps for the game at launch, and 4 of them looked identical. Then they charge you money for map packs. Dedicated servers were promised to be a launch feature, but was months late and didn't work well.

Pisses me off all over again just thinking about it. The game could have been great.
