Dead Space 2 multiplayer details emerge

Necromorphs vs. soldiers, apparently.

New information regarding the online multiplayer mode in Dead Space 2 is flying about the internet.

According to Gamernode, it emerged during a GameStop conference in San Antonio, Texas.

Apparently EA revealed you'll be able to control the Necromorphs in deathmatch-style battles against regular "soldiers" - and vice versa. More multiplayer characters will be announced in the future.

Anyone pre-ordering the game will get downloadable add-on Dead Space: Ignition into the bargain. Those pre-ordering from GameStop will also get a free rivet gun.

Dead Space 2 will arrive on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 28th January. Read our recent preview for the full lowdown.

Does this really need multiplayer? Did Bioshock 2 need multiplayer? NO!

    Deathmatch in Dead Space.... *sigh*

I just hope the don't balls up the SP, I'll be honest though I'm having to suppress doubts on this sequel.

    @Bostec

Did Uncharted 2 need it? No,

    Was it awesome? Yes.

That actually sounds, dare I say . . . good.

Marines Vs. Aliens, anyone? Sci-fi survival horror could make for great multiplayer.

    It sounds silly to me.

Ok.. this sounds much much more interesting that a dozen isaacs running around chopping eachother's legs off and hopping to get to a medkit.

‘Does this really need multiplayer? NO’

Well, if it does turn out pants and doesn’t interfere with the SP game, then it’s a free addition and no harm done

…if it turns out great, then awesome!

Why not just stick to SP for godsake!

Like many tacked on MPs this will get boring quickly and people will go back to their CODs and Battlefield.

Another sad trend in modern day gaming that shooters should have MP.

Why does every game have to have multiplayer/online function these days? This is a survival horror game, a single player experience, not a fragfest.

A Left 4 Dead Versus style mode would be better for this, if they REALLY have to add multiplayer at all.

This is probably just taking up resources that should have been spent on the single player. Obviously I haven't played it but its more than likely a novelty feature that is only there to pad out the back of the box. I could be wrong tho, I thought the exact same thing about Uncharted 2's multiplayer when that was announced
  • Shakey_Jake33 #14 1 year ago

I don't remember sitting there playing Dead Space thinking 'wow, this really need a multiplayer'. Ah well, as long as they keep it entirely separate from the single player, I can pretend it doesn't exist.
  • makeamazing #15 1 year ago

Problem is that they will probably add "Racked up a gazzillion hours in multiplayer" for a trophy :(... i hate it when designers do that.
  • legendarytomuk #16 1 year ago

I find that most multiplayer servers are just dead space nowadays.

Edit: Before anyone else -1s me I'm referring to stuff like B2 that really doesn't need multiplayer, aka just a bad joke

I really hope they haven't compromised the quality of the single player game to put time into a multiplayer nobody really cares about. People who liked Dead Space, liked it because it was a good single player game. Just another 'Xbox Live Multiplayer' menu entry to never click on.

    New feature, I won't complain!
  • Osmond #19 1 year ago

why didnt they just leave it alone? theres no need for a multiplayer, but at least they didnt force a co-op on us,( like capcom do). please listen devs , no one is playing the vast majority of your multiplayers after a few weeks , so why bother?.

    Standard boring MP stuff...

I was expecting something ambitious, along the lines of the still-unrivaled co-op mode in Project Eden -- four players can play the full campaign, but each one has to follow a specific path and do his co-op part of the job in order for the others to advance.

I heard they were adding multiplayer and I instantly just assumed it would be like L4D versus and moved on, I'm disappointed to hear it won't be like that. Balancing shambling necromorphs vs soldiers will be damn tricky but it could still be fun.

I hope they don't include any multiplayer acheivments
  • mcreddie #23 1 year ago

    Ugh...This sounds worrying...

Just focus on an awesome campaign like the last one, surely no-one wants multiplayer on EVERY single new game. It just gets abandoned after about 2-3 weeks.
