Final Fantasy XIV beta delayed
Update: Will begin tomorrow.
Update: Square Enix has said the Final Fantasy XIV Online beta will begin tomorrow morning at 2am GMT.
Get your registration code on the FFXIV website.
Original story: As many may already know, Square Enix has delayed the opening of the Final Fantasy XIV Online beta.
This had been scheduled to start today but has been postponed because of a "critical issue" with the client software, the official website explained.
When the doors will open now is unknown. We're told only that Square Enix is in "the final stages of preparation", and that a "new schedule will be released at a later date".
Final Fantasy XIV will be released for PC on 30th September, although buyers of the Special Edition can enter the world eight days earlier on 22nd September.
Eurogamer's impressions of the Final Fantasy XIV beta were published this morning.

@Powerslave It seems that porting it from the PC to PS3 has its problems.

I left the updater running last night from 6pm until lunchtime today before it finished. I hope any patching on launch day is quicker!

Nice one! You beat Square's email too.
Have just ran the benchmark on my laptop - even though I'll be playing on my tower at home mainly, laptop will be for crafty crafting whilst I should be working (depending on hpw imput heavy the crafting is) - and it scored 670, which didn;t seem too bad. Viewing some in-game scenes and cinematics has started to get me really excited again.
Roll on the 2nd Sept!

EDIT: Taken from [link url=ht tp://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/media/benchmark/na/

[8000 and over] Extremely High Performance
Easily capable of running the game on the highest settings.
[5500–7999] Very High Performance
Easily capable of running the game. Should perform exceptionally well, even at higher resolutions.
[4500-5499] High Performance
Easily capable of running the game. Should perform well, even at higher resolutions.
[3000-4499] Fairly High Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings. Consider switching to a higher resolution depending on performance.
[2500-2999] Standard Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings.
[2000-2499] Slightly Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but may experience some slowdown. Adjust settings to improve performance.
[1500-1999] Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but will experience considerable slowdown. Adjusting settings is unlikely to improve performance.
[Under 1500] Insufficient Performance
Does not meet specifications for running the game.

It seemed to run okay on my laptop. I assumed I'd on my need to turn an awful lot of settings down though. Let's hope I score better on my tower at home.

"People still believe what the benchmark says?
More specifically, the ratings of what's "High performance" and stuff.
It's pretty *** obvious just watching the screen while the benchmark runs, whether or not you'll be able to play it. The rankings themselves assume you're going to play in windowed mode with every program on your computer running at high priority. My laptop was running at about 45 FPS for most of it, if memory serves me correctly, and got a 2500. Obviously, I'm not going to play it in windowed mode, nor do I expect a solid 60 FPS at all times.
Besides, anything above 500 is capable of playing the Beta without much problems, aside from computers with compatibility issues."

So, that's a little promising. A very good point about the benchmark running in windowed mode, can definitely expect better results when the game is full screen. And it play well in the benchmark, despite the score, so I'm hopeful.

Ignore my earlier post! Nothing to see there! Move along!

I have no idea whether they are limited or not, I assume they aren't, thinking about it, being an open beta and all that. The slightest doubt makes me want to stay up til 3am, just in case. I get excited by big MMO launches like this very, very easily, and I'm also a big Final Fantasy geek, so this is all making me a little giddy. I'd be gutted if I missed out!
Although, now, after hearing the confirmation that keys aren't limited... I might not stay up to stupid o'clock after all.

So I assume there may still be more.
Edit: I have achieved this message - "Applications for the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test have been temporarily suspended. Please wait until we are ready to accept new applications and then try again."
So, I think rodpad is incorrect.
2nd edit: It now says the servers are down for maintenace! Eek.

And i've just been reading up on MMORPG.com and its been like that all night. I think we will get in, we just need to be patient. We all know how popular the game will be and it was bound to be hammered within 2 minutes of going up

See.
Infact everything after the &ret part is merely the return url.

Nicely spotted!

I guess they are staggering the release of keys after all.

Is has a OBTENTRYEU in it and worked for me (was redirected from the main http://entry.ffxiv.com/ a> site).

I just hit that first link you posted in post #31, and that took me straight through to the page where they accepted the application and sent me a beta key to my email! \o/
I can't actually log in to my account to actually apply my key yet, but I'm sure that'll be okay later.

Got my key at 9 am
Comment below viewing threshold Show
All working now, which is nice.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
@MasterNameless - I tried that, and I get a page where i have to enter data for using "Crysta"...
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Yeah, as far as I know, all the Crysta info has to be filled in first. I logged into the account management yesterday and filled all the Crysta info then.
If you fill the Crysta info in, and then you can go back to the link for the beta key, or it could take you straight there - and then it automatically emails you the key.

Its currently 'suspended' with zero info on when its coming back... Maybe something approx like a day or 50 would be nice.

And when it starts to download, you can speed the process up by going to;
C:\Users\miniFRAK\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\metainfo
for the torrent files, and open them in utorrent. Then drop the completed file into;
C:\Users\miniFRAK\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\patch
If you start off each file in the launcher, it makes it easier to where the patch file goes, as you will be overwriting it with the complete version from utorrent.
Also, if you have trouble getting to the account site to register the key, fire the launcher up when it's fully downloaded, and go to the account website through the link there. It will take you straight there, avoiding the 'congestion'.
Hope that helps.

The only three options are -
Boot (everytime it 'times out' whilst trying to check version number)
Config (general options)
Updater (Does nothing)
Sigh.... I hate things that are not instantly accessable with ease of use.

The actual game servers seem to be down still though. Hopefully they'll be back up in the next couple of hours... :/
