Games boost Warner profit

Mortal Kombat 9, Lego Pirates.

Mortal Kombat 9 and Lego Pirates of the Caribbean have done well for Time Warner.

The two games, combined with DVD/Blu-ray sales of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, pushed money-made during April-to-June up to $2.8 billion. That's an increase of 13 per cent on 2010.

And that's all Time Warner said about its game business.

Time Warner as a whole made $7 billion during the April-June period. Time Warner owns HBO and and CNN. Highlights for the quarter were TNT's Falling Skies, HBO's A Game of Thrones, People magazine's and CNN's coverage of the royal wedding and the cinematic releases The Hangover 2 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

The latter has apparently been a "tremendous" critical and commercial success, and grossed $1 billion worldwide up to the end of July.

Time Warner recorded a six month profit of $1.288 billion.
