EA working on new Rings game

Lordy. Extends licence, too.

Electronic Arts is working on a brand new Lord of the Rings game for release in 2008, having renewed its deal with New Line Cinema to make games of the films until the end of next year.

Details on the new one are expected soon, but EA has confirmed that it's not on-hold RPG The White Council, and will in fact be something "all-new". Well, we expect you'll recognise bits of it - otherwise what's the point in the licence?

The point in the licence, according to EA's executive vice president and general manager of North American publishing (compensating), is that LOTR is "an incredible canvas to create epic games".

And don't expect this to be the end of it either, with New Line's senior executive vice president of worldwide licensing and merchandising David Imhoff adding that the company looks forward to "working closely with EA to create even more compelling LOTR adventures in the future".

Except he didn't say "LOTR", obviously - he said "Lord of the Rings". We just thought it was snappier this way.
