Once upon a time, the only real barrier preventing PC gamers putting themselves within groping distance of malformed malcontents was a publisher's lack of interest - with only Capcom serving up the occasional Dino Crisis-related nugget of terror.

Fortunately, the ever-enterprising Konami soon saw the gap and went for it, releasing Silent Hill 2. OK, so the PC market was arguably a little more creative with its scares - with games like System Shock 2 the pinnacle of 'getting your fright on' for the format - but Silent Hill is rather more twisted and interesting than Resident Evil anyway. The only problem is that it's a 444MB chunk. But then if you've never tried Silent Hill, and rather like the idea of sitting alone in the cold at 2am cradling a joypad with your eyes staring worriedly into the murky darkness beyond, then you might want to set it off in the background while you go to work. G'wan.
