New today on EuroGamer is a big hands-on preview of Icewind Dale, the latest role-playing game based on the "Infinity engine" used by Baldur's Gate, and developed by a team that has previously worked on classic RPGs such as Fallout 2 and Planescape Torment.

Set in the frozen wastelands of the far north (and we're not talking Yorkshire here!), Icewind Dale is more of a hack-and-slash affair than Baldur's Gate, with a focus on dungeoneering action rather than in-depth character development and gripping story-lines. Can it live up to the high standards of its predecessors? We took a look at some beta code provided by the game's UK publisher, Virgin Interactive, to find out more... For the full story, read our preview, which also includes four exclusive new screenshots of the game in action.
