Tokyo Game Show is the latest trade event cancelled due to coronavirus

"We ask for your kind understanding and cooperation."

It likely comes as no surprise, but Tokyo Game Show is the latest event to cancel its physical show amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Originally scheduled to take place from 24th September at Tokyo's Makuhari Messe, the trade show has now joined many others in pivoting to an online-only event.

"Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on a global scale and the situation remains unpredictable in Japan as well, the organiser and the co-organisers have reached [a] decision after a long consideration to place the utmost priority on the health and safety of visitors, exhibitors and stakeholders," organisers CESA, Nikkei and Dentsu said in a joint statement on its website (thanks, VGC). "We ask for your kind understanding and cooperation."

The organisers promise more information will follow in due course.

A number of gaming events around the world have already been cancelled due to COVID-19, including GDC, Gamescom and E3. Paris Game Week - which was scheduled to take place between 23rd-27th October - was also recently postponed.
