Finally! After months of waiting, this week the next generation of consoles finally gets motoring with the arrival of the most hotly anticipated game of the past two years. Watch Dogs? What's that? I am of course referring to Mario Kart 8, the triumphant return of Nintendo's signature kart racing series.

To be honest, they had me at "HD graphics" - I grew up lapping AI racers on Bowser Castle 1 and thrashing my sister at Battle mode, so the prospect of any old Mario Kart in glorious high resolution was enough for me - but Simon Parkin's Mario Kart 8 review says we're looking at something much more special: "the best entry in a series and the most exciting yet."

The game's out on Friday, but in the meantime you can join Ian Higton live on the Eurogamer YouTube channel from 5pm BST to see it in action. Ian will be streaming the game for a whole hour and also has a collector's edition to give away to one lucky viewer. So if you're keen to see the game in action, get yourself over there or watch below.
