The 3DS's controversial second circle pad add-on is a "smart move", so says Activision Publishing boss Eric Hirshberg.

Speaking in an interview with IndustryGamers, Hirshberg suggested that the new peripheral makes the platform a more appealing prospect for developers.

"It does make the hardware more relevant and compatible to the style of games we make," he explained.

"I don't have anything to announce in relation to that, but I think it was a great move and it opens up that platform to more styles of games."

As confirmed at Nintendo's 3DS showcase in Tokyo yesterday, the add-on launches in Japan alongside Monster Hunter Tri G this December, priced at around £12.

Other titles confirmed to be compatible with the device include Resident Evil: Revelations, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble, Dynasty Warriors Vs and Kingdom Hearts 3D.
