It's trying to do something a little different, compared to the corridor shooters of Doom, and that should be applauded. The section at the end where the mutants were leaping over the shacks was great....

all those mutants.
FPS games should offer tension in the batlles.
In nowadays most FPS games are becoming boring because the
shooting battles which are the core of the gameplay don't offer
any challenge. In some games they are too easy, especially with
the automatic health regeneration, in other games the AI routines
are very poor, predictable and faulty. Opponents never
flank you and most times cover behind boulders leaving their head
uncovered and can be easilly shot. And the most funny thing is that you
can kill enemies by just shooting ay their legs. This things are hilarious
and are some reasons why the FPS genre is degenerating.
From what I saw in this trailer I can say I'm optimistic and I think
RAGE will bring fresh air to the FPS genre. ID if you don't fail in the
AI routines, like CRYSIS 2 unfortunately did, I think this game is going
to be a real cracker.

But that's fine by me. Singularity's a recent game that took some old-school FPS mechanics, dressed them up in modern clothing and let you revel in the fun of its inventive weapons and bonkers plot. I hope Rage follows a similar philosophy.
