US sales climb, too
Nintendo held responsible.
Those of you across the pond have been buying lots of games and consoles, according to NPD Group sales figures, prompting a 37 per cent increase over July 2006.
The total pile of green bills rose to USD 925.5 million, with the total stash at around USD 7 billion.
Hardware sales soared by 77.4 per cent to USD 380.8 million for the month, largely thanks to impressive sales of the Wii at 425,000 and DS at 405,000.
Microsoft put one over Sony by reaching 170,000 to an opposing 159,000, even with July marking the first month of the official USD 100 PS3 price cut. The effect of the lowered Xbox 360 asking price won't be reflected until next month.
However, PS2 and PSP continue to outsell both, at 222,000 and 214,000 respectively.
Biggest games of the month were NCAA Football '08 on 360, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s on PS2, Wii Play, NCAA Football '08 on PS2, and Mario Party 8 on Wii.
Other best sellers were NCAA Football '08 on PS3, Pokémon Diamond on DS, Transformers on PS2, Guitar Hero II on PS2, and Guitar Hero II on 360.

I've heard so many contradicting stories over who is outselling who I just do not know who to believe anymore!

And those Xbox is just FPS'es is so 90's, it stinks. There are + 300 360 titles for every tastes, from RPG's to RTS'es, from Sports to Shooters, from Racing to Arcade..., just let it go...
VGChartz is ridicule, have you seen their "community", their forums are pretty hilarious.

Who cares anyway? The good thing about PC gaming is that comments threads don't degenerate into fanboy wars within seconds. Why aren't there PC fanboys? And don't say cuz they're too busy HUNCHEd over their DESKS like NERDS rofl rofl.

I won't say, but it is true.

Confounder - Xbox 360 (and PS3) being out sold by PS2! Xbox 360 may be leading the next gen sales numbers but it sure as heck is lagging behind in sales in the overrall gaming market.
You have to look at the whole picture, not just hardware numbers. It's a mixture of the two that makes a console successful. Publishers and developers don't care what console is selling the most if they're not selling software on it. The best selling software for the month of July was NCAA '08 for the 360. The 360's software selling power can not be taken lightly, especially in the NA market. It's what's most important to publishers and developers.
The gaming cycle is still with Sony although Nintendo are pushing hard.
What does that even mean?
Wii has outsold the DS to be the highest selling console in NA. Hats off to you Nintendo.

The budget league, that is.

Both Wii and PS3 may as well not exist at the moment, well for me anyway.

PS2 is off course of league of its own, it's the league that everybody has one, just because. All my friends here at work have one, thy give it to their 5 years olds and such, they buy the least expensive games, they "chip" it, everything goes to get "as cheap as possible". Just the other day:
- Did you know that Devil Mat Cry is coming to the Xbox too, it used to be PS exclusive (me)
- Devil May what ? I don't know what you're talking about, I just play PES once a month or so... (m8)
And what's the "overrall gaming market", 360 sells more units, #1 top-seller game... ? So is it consoles, games, "a satanic drug thing, that I wouldn't understand" ?

I was under the impression that the Wii passed the 360 globally this week? Unless you are one of those who doesn't count the Wii as it's not 'next gen'.

Bluray is the hardest thing to pirate for now...
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Erm.. no its not.. it's being outsold by the wii (400k is bigger than 170k).. which has just overtaken it in total global sales too.

Strange then that so far their predictions have been pretty much on the trigger of every official sales figures announced by the leading 3 isnt it?
Yes the numbers they come up with are guesses based on data they can get.. but they seem to be doing an accurate enough job.
The only people who dont want to believe their numbers are accurate are the ones who are crying because their machine is behind another in the list.

"MS have not moved on. Xbox 360 is still the domain of PC gamers and does not appeal to the public at large."
I agree with you completely.

If I'm not mistaken, until a few days ago you used to be one of them!?

I won't say, but it is true.
As if there's something nerdier imaginable than buying a machine specifically for games.
/chuckles
Wait, there is somehing nerdier. Defending said games machine against imaginary attackers in every comments thread on a website.

I myself am also clad to see NIN back killing the competition, (although I may never own one), as a video gamer since the atari 2600 days I like to see a company still making classic kids games. We need that, because if you look at most ps3 or 360 games they are pretty violent. (except the ones on XBLA or some on PSN) So kudos to NIN winning so far.
