Super SFIV coming spring next year

As a budget, standalone release.

Capcom plans to release Super Street Fighter IV next spring on PS3 and Xbox 360.

The game, leaked yesterday, will be standalone and launch at a budget price.

That's according to GameSpot's information from the Tokyo Game Show, although exactly how much we'll pay is still up for grabs.

Aside from adding new characters - three of which will definitely be T Hawk, Juri and Dee Jay - Capcom is taking the chance to rebalance the existing roster based on your feedback. Part of that process involves adding an extra Ultra combo to each fighter.

The online area of the game will also be brushed up, with rumours of a lobby doing the rounds.

Because of all these enhancements, however, SFIV and Super SFIV will not be compatible online - but there will be some sort of bonus offered to owners of both.

Complete piss take on the part of Capcom, they might be trying to soften the blow by making it a budget release but its still a kick in the teeth to those of us who bought the game when it first came out at a high price! They could really make this DLC and make both games compatible of they wanted but I get the feeling they are being lazy and can't be bothered to do that.

Cheers Capcom you robbing twats :)
  • bad09 #2 2 years ago

Wow a budget price that's a first for Capcom normally the updates are full price! Please, no raping with costume charging this time though Mr Capcom :)

Anyway can't wait to try this out when it hits see what they done with it, I'm due a tirp to troc anyway!
  • only_one_t #3 2 years ago

@ indafunkyhouse - if the cost of all new stuff as DLC is the same price as a new disk based game are Capcom still 'robbing twats'?
  • indafunkyhouse #4 2 years ago

@only_one_t yup as all this really could have been in the first game, but as usual with the SS series of games they wait, and then shove out update after update. Pathetic on their part, they could have the DLC cheaper than the original disk base game as a softener to those who actually do own the original version
  • RobotRocker #5 2 years ago

Considering people have been wanting to py full price for this. Its quite the clever move by Capcom and good on them for not going the obvious route considering people have been screaming about wanting to pay for a full price disc over DLC.

Of course Capcom still have the chance to whack it up to full price now the hype is out so Shut up about the price you idiots
  • coderkind #6 2 years ago

Played SFIV more than most other games over the past months, so welcome this new release regardless.
  • bad09 #7 2 years ago

    @ indafunkyhouse

Er...you never played a Street Fighter before? You ALWAYS get these updates/tweaks.

I am not understanding people getting upset on this, it's like the L4d silliness all over again. What is a piss take about this exactly? It is only a announcement about releasing an arcade game that they have confirmed will hit consoles around a year after the original is released? Even at a cheaper price! All Street Fighter fans who know the series knew this would hit, hell I've been waiting for it! :)

I was the first to call Capcom robbing bastards with their DLC (and they are!) but releasing and update to SF4 after A YEAR at a CHEAPER price is not bad at all.

I don't really understand why this is any different to Lost Planet Colonies and Halo ODST?
  • XdarXideX #9 2 years ago

    @indafunkyhouse

If the rumours/leak are true, then no they couldn't do this as DLC. They can't change just ANYTHING they want with DLC. Also, can you imagine the size of this update with the new character data on top of the large amount of game code changes? Be realistic.

Besides, like someone else said... this is the Street fighter franchise we're talking about. how can you NOT expect standalone upgrades?
  • Br0ken_Engli5h #10 2 years ago

    @indafunkyhouse
I have this idea, but it's a bit fucking "out there", man. Instead of complaining about a budget update that fans actually want, why don't you just not buy the game?
    It's a novel idea, I know. ;)

Shouldn't you be out picketing Valves offices or something?

Capcom should burn for this. I paid thirty quid of my hard earned money and for what? Around a thousand hours of entertainment over the course of only a year or so. And now they want to make MORE CONTENT for this game I really like? And not releasing it for free for indignant enough fanboys? I'll definitely buy this update but I'll be wearing a seriously constipated expression while I do so, that'll show them.
  • DevilsNeverCry #12 2 years ago

In regards to those of you saying 'why can't this just be an update through DLC' - you musn't have read the article.

It clearly states the game will be re-balanced and therefore the fighting engine will be changed, so to avoid backlash the natural decision is to relese it seperately.

You never know, they may implement the new characters in DLC form to the original fighting system but only time wil tell that.

SSF2T HDR and SFIV really brought me back into fighting games (and more recently Marvel vs Capcom 2 HDR) and if this is an expansion pack priced release it really is a no brainer. Got to look at it from a value for money kind of way- Will you get another few hundred hours play out of this? If the answer's yes you're probably not one of the ones taking issue with the price.
  • hiddenranbir #14 2 years ago

    Rebalance eh? sounds sexy.

Hopefully now certain characters won't have priority over 90% of the moves thrown at them.

    Can't wait.

They should spend the time to merge the 360 and PC player base. They said it is possible but don't want to do it. Do it! Do it!

This game will be amazing, and I'd pay whatever capcom asked for it.
  • GreyScale #16 2 years ago

"yup as all this really could have been in the first game, but as usual with the SS series of games they wait, and then shove out update after update"

Good point. Its obvious really that the first game in a series should contain all future enhancements, addons, levels, gameplay changes, graphics updates and plot continuations, thereby stopping us hardworking customers from being ripped off by buying sequels and updates. And if they complain about it, they should get a better time machine and shut up.
  • actionfitz #17 2 years ago

    hmm. how budget?
Bobby Kotick Budget? whereby selling for anything under £50?
    heh.
  • Koozer #18 2 years ago

So they're charging for a patch and a few new characters, that isn't even compatible with the original? Riiight...
How do companies get away so easily with this kind of thing on consoles? I dread to think how much TF2 would've cost me over the years if they charged for every class update and balance patch.
  • uzivatel #19 2 years ago

Hope they dont screw with people who bought the SFIV DLC and make it compatible with SSFIV.
  • SpaceMonkey77 #20 2 years ago

Good one Capcom. I purchased my copy of SFIV on release day and have never regreted it. I have no problem paying for a PHYSICAL copy update of SFIV with new characters to master.

This is very smart of Capcom? Why? Because not everyone has a hard drive, let alone one with enough psace for multiple amount of DLC over several games. Kudos to those who have 60-120gb drives, but many of us also have a 20gb still, and for every game I buy, that space shrinks a bit more. I'd always take a dvd copy over DLC, because of this.

@indahouse etc: Dude, be serious? Are you telling me that you've never purchased extra content, from any other developer for any other game? Physical or DLC? How its sold is irrelevant, as we all have the I'M NOT HAPPY WITH THAT, I DON'T HAVE TO BUY IT option. You'll just be left on the sidelines, with your pride, as your friends all indulge in online fights.

And please, can it with that lame 'It should have been on the full game' crap. If capcom did so, and charged you £60 for it, you'd still complain about it. Seems they can't win either way with some, and you'd just as easily switch your selective attitude for a completely different game. The advent of DLC means, many of these games will get like EA sports updates yearly or so, but that's not necessarily bad thing.

My advice, swallow your pride and if you love this game support it, via rental (Love Film/Net Flix will do you a good deal, but its always better to own it) or buying it. If its a budget upgrade, I think Capcom will probably charge £20 for it, anyway. Not bad at all.
  • Ishmail #21 2 years ago

More seriously it depends on how big the changes are. If it turns out just to be two new characters and a balance tweak then I don't think it'd be worth the money. But see how thinking something is too expensive doesn't have to result in frothing nerdrage.

On the other hand if it's 8-10 new characters, a system overhaul and new online modes etc then of course it should be a new game.

Want a 4 pack of beer. Happy with the price, happy with the beer, buy the beer at the price advertised and enjoy it. Later find out single beers are available at an extra cost. Do you scream that they should have been included in the 4 pack that you were happy to buy for the price advertised, threaten to boycott the beers and set up an internet petition. Or decide you are happy with the 4 beers and feel you don't want more beer, or make the decision that you liked the beer and want more so pay for more?

    Are games any different?
  • telboy007 #23 2 years ago

Sweet, sounds good. I enjoyed SFIV but I didn't quite feel it like other SF games. Hopefully this'll be the one that cracks it. Liking the expanded roster. Game does need Ibuki in it though. :) Maybe Rolento as well... and all the others from over the years, sod it Capcom get everyone in there!
  • the_mtfr #24 2 years ago

So no PC release this time?
  • Ranger101 #25 2 years ago

  • Ranger101 #26 2 years ago

    UNconfirmed but almost confirmed characters:

Deejay, T hawk, Juri, male wrestler/grappler, makoto, ibuki, dudley, guy, cody and maybe elena.
  • smernicki #27 2 years ago

i kind of like SFIV as it is. it's simple enough that anyone can pick it and have a go, but the depth to it is phenomenal if you have the skill/time/persistence. i think this update could be good, but really hope it doesn't start getting too hardcore
  • XdarXideX #28 2 years ago

I hope they announce the new roster soon. I want me some Ibuki!

EDIT: It's alarming how stupid people can be... complaining about how soon after the release of SF4 this is. It's not like Super SF4 is coming out tomorrow... they have still yet to finish the new line-up of characters.

If there was one thing you could change Capcom it's the VERY ANNOYING MUSIC in SF4. I'd buy that at any price, the price of sanity!
  • smernicki #30 2 years ago

    @cherryuk

    totally! that music is awful!
  • mega7ech #31 2 years ago

Have personally been playing Street Fighter games since the original waaaaay back on the good old SNES. To think this announcement was going to be anything other then a "Super" version of the game seems daft - its what Capcom have always done with the series. To get angry about it seems dafter still. To all those moaning about it, just be thankful your not paying £65 or upward (if you played imports) for every version like you did back when these games were all on plastic cartridges. Oh and dont think Capcom arent already planning a "Super Turbo" edition either!

Long live the SNES - Long live Street Fighter! :p
  • hiddenranbir #32 2 years ago

    What about PC version?

PC release put SF4 back into the top 20 charts in retail!!
