Smash Bros. Brawl Euro date News

News by Tom Bramwell

24 April, 2008

Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be released on 27th June in Europe, Nintendo said today.

Having puffed out its chest about Wii hardware and software sales and announced European WiiWare details this morning, Nintendo has also issued a bunch of release dates and SSBB was among them.

At a glance, there's nothing massively new and fascinating elsewhere on the list (and indeed some of it is slightly less detailed information than what we already have - we know Boom Blox is out on 9th May, for instance, whereas this list just says May), but there are a few unknown quantities tucked away in its depths.

Family Ski, for instance, is down as 13th June, and Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What to Eat? from Nintendo claims to be out in June as well.

Family Ski, for instance, is down as 13th June
Did this not strike them as a slightly odd time to be releasing a ski game?

I honestly have to say I've lost interest. They've taken far too long releasing this game, it's already old hat, we know practically everything about it and I've already played it from people who've imported. With everything else coming out this year, I'm no longer going to bother getting it, I'll wait until I can find it cheap.

Surely it's the perfect time? There's fuck all chance of skiing in Europe then, so the virtual will have to do!

Once GTAIV, then Ninja Gaiden 2 drop, I wont have time for Smash Bros, Ninty.

Too late - you missed the Eurobus.

I'll now try to hold out for a black US Wii, and grab a load of games for cheap once I've gotten bored with GTA IV & NG2.

That could take a looooooong time.

Shame.

BiscuitBase, were you paid by Sony to write that or something? I mean, come on, the way you wrote sounds like you're quoting a press release or something... Besides, we don't even know how good Haze is gonna be (don't get me wrong, I'm a Free Radical fan and when it comes to PC I'll probably pick it up) whereas Smash IS amazing (having played an import at a friend's).

This date is after my exams, which is good for me. Something to look forward to (if it had come out earlier it would only have distracted from revision).

How is alone in the dark Q1 2008?

Edit: Looking at this list further it looks like utter nonsense as none of the dates match actual releases. Isn't this just some estimated thing that's already out of date.

Right then, just to jump on the bandwagon and say Nintendo are cocks. Slightly early Mariokart and Wii Fit doesn't make up for a game being this late, especially when the translation was already done. There's no reason whatsoever for there to be more than a month's difference between US and UK releases, and I'd also say the translation monkeys should work as the title's developed to make worldwide simulataneous (or within weeks) releases standard. Surely it buggers up sales as no-one is as excited by a game that's already lost its buzz of novelty.

That said I've still got a lazy lob on, I fucking love Smash Bros. You can poke your Haze up your arse biscuitboy.

I don't have a Wii just now, but I'm pretty sure I will buy one for Smash (and Mario Kart) this summer. I'm as insulted as everyone else by the ridiculous delay but... I love Smash. I played it a lot on the Gamecube in Uni with coursemates and now we're not there we're all wanting to keep playing online.

...well, that's just perfect. One of the main reasons I've been so impatient for the Smash Bros. release date is because I'm in my final year at uni right now, and I really want a chance to play Brawl with my flatmates before we all go out separate ways. I waited, and waited, and FINALLY, we've got the date. 27th of June: the exact day I move out.

Good to have the Euro date, finally, no doubt, but curiously it's the thing that's finally convinced me to take the plunge with importing. :P

Cya Nintendo Europe, I'm outta here (again).

Was waiting for that. Woot, apparently it even works on some US GC games when used with the Wii. Nice work Codejunkies.

"They probably mean the first quarter of the financial year '08/'09, which would be in May, June or July."

I doubt it.

For a start it is May, June and July in the UK. For a lot of the EU (Nintendo is in Germany) the financial and calendar year are the same now. Previously Q1 2008 would have started in October 2007 for most (IIRC).

Q1 is gone, unless this is their way of covering their asses; if you don't specify what Q1 is and no-one can ever accuse you of slipping. :)

Edit: It appears I might be talking out my ass about the German fiscal year being the same as the calendar year, apologies if I am.

i would have imported a copy along with a Freeloader disk but was put off with reports of the disc trouble people were having, plus Ninty warned people that if they imported the game and their Wii broke as a result then they wouldnt fix the console :/
