SEGA reveals UK AVP retailer deals

Split between Play, Game, HMV.

SEGA's revealed three Aliens vs. Predator pre-order deals for the UK - one each for GAME, HMV and Play.

Play's bagged codes to unlock new looks for characters. There's the Serpent Hunter skin for Predators, Sergeant Kaneko skin for Marines and Number 6 skin for Aliens. Pre-order price is £39.99 on consoles, £17.99 for PC.

GAME's been awarded the Survivor Edition of Aliens vs. Predator. This offers steel-book packaging and four multiplayer maps: docks, outpost, machine and hive. Pre-order price is £54.99 on consoles, £34.99 on PC.

And HMV's scooped the biggy: the Hunter Edition. This includes a replica facehugger alien model, Weylund-Yutani fabric badge, 3D lenticular postcard and those four maps plus steel case. Pre-order price is a surprising £59.99 on consoles, £39.99 on PC.

Might as well get the facehugger.

Aliens vs. Predator will be released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 19th February.

Can't see GAME being too happy with their lot. Can't say I feel sorry for them though.
  • timewarp87 #2 2 years ago

£17.99 on play for pc :-)
  • Murton #3 2 years ago

No way any publisher with half a mind is going to let multiplayer maps be an exclusive pre-order bonus so they'll definitely be released as a day one premium DLC so realistically there are only two choices here, the bonus skins with the play.com edition, which may or may not be exclusive or the HMV edition with the facehugger, map pack DLC, the Weylund patch (assuming "fabric badge" is a sew-on patch in real language) and the steel case if you're into that sort of thing.

With so many releases so close together I'm undecided on whether or not I can really justify the Hunter edition as a purchase, I think I'm more likely to just get a standard edition at this point, at least the case won't stand out too much in my collection then.
  • M4RV #4 2 years ago

Still not buying, even though some of the goodies there look good... The best of luck anyhow, since the original is still a lot of fun to play.
  • LR100 #5 2 years ago

Does anyone know if the play.com multiplayer skins will be unlockable at some point (XP reward? Single player completion? etc) or available as DLC in future?

£55 for a steel book and 4 maps is a pretty crap deal there, haha @ GAME!
  • cianchristopher #6 2 years ago

It's a Steam game (like all SEGA PC games) on PC so I'll just buy it, register the cd key with Steam, then throw the box/disc in the bin. (Gets rid of clutter, you see)....
  • schnide #7 2 years ago

Why wait for a discounted price from other retailers when you can pay a shitload more for tat that'll sit on your shelf gathering dust? GO GO CONSUMERS!
  • tachometer #8 2 years ago

    @ cianchristopher

Nice one fella I did not know it was a Steam game, always love those cheap unlocks! AvP for £18 it is. Yay!
  • Monkey_Puncher #10 2 years ago

I've heard nothing but bad things about this, so I think i'll be waiting for a demo.
  • jim1975 #11 2 years ago

i REALLY want this to be great.
  • WinterSnowblind #12 2 years ago

Nice to see HMV and Play getting more of these deals rather than GAME all the time, who seem to be marking up their exclusives a ridiculous amount. Look at Splinter Cell and Mass Effect, for example.. the GAME prices are just outragous for such a small amount of extras, and this is another great example.

For just £5 more than GAME's steel case and maps you can get the HMV version which has all that stuff plus a whole lot more.
  • CrunchinJelly #13 2 years ago

Will buy for £18 2 weeks after launch.
  • Darren #14 2 years ago

Woo-hoo... £18 for the PC version... right that's my Amazon pre-order cancelled then! :D
  • coolbritannia #15 2 years ago

The multiplayer us hardly going to dent MW2 is it? That means I'll buy a month after release for £20.
  • monkeywithnoeyes #16 2 years ago

more than twice as much for the console version?
  • IneptPercy #17 2 years ago

£17.99, instant purchase for me. Was anyway as I spent £200 on a graphics card for this!

Not long to wait... stay frostie.

Don't forget quidco people, if you don't understand then google it.
  • bumgut #18 2 years ago

The price differential between console and PC versions is ridiculous.
  • 1Dgaf #19 2 years ago

It's staggering that Rebellion has decided to fragment the player base immediately by having some versions with extra multiplayer maps. Why not follow Bioware and include maps with all new purchases? Also, it doesn't say that one will get a code to download the maps, so I assume they're already on the disc.
  • WinterSnowblind #20 2 years ago

That's a good point as well actually. Play say specifically that it's an "unlock code" which could well mean it's a password to unlock them early. Much like what happened with the Harvester in Darksiders. In which case they really need to start making it more clear that this content isn't actually exclusive..
  • lunnyt00n #21 2 years ago

Well thats my PC version ordered from Play. My only concern is if those extra maps don't get released as DLC, im gonna be pretty pissed off.
  • makeamazing #22 2 years ago

Sad thing is that even with the PC price of £17.99 they still wont sell as many as the consoles... and people still cling to the hope that the PC market is doing fine... cant see how companies can continue to do this for the long term.
  • sam_w #23 2 years ago

When I played the game at the Expo, the framerate was absolutely terrible, hopefully it will have improved by the time the full game is released!
  • Olemak #24 2 years ago

Is there any chance that this will be less crap than the two awful APV movies?
  • madgerald Verified Studio Head of PR & Marketing, Colossal Games LTD #25 2 years ago

@MrParker @Monkey_Puncher - you guys free on Thursday? You want to come and make your own mind up about AvP? Drop me a PM.

  • hahayou #26 2 years ago

Hey, madgerald or other SEGA people, any chance of publishing the system requirements? I'm not going to pre-order a game I might not be able to run, am I?
  • madgerald Verified Studio Head of PR & Marketing, Colossal Games LTD #27 2 years ago

@hahayou - I'll enquire tomorrow when I get back in the office.
  • AtomicBanana #28 2 years ago

The game looks rubbish! .... now can I come and take a look too please? ;)
  • bad09 #29 2 years ago

    @ madgerald

Any chance the demo is coming this week? Go on pretty please with royal jelly on top!
  • Machetazo #30 2 years ago

@Murton That's what I have trouble with, here, too. How is it a great bonus to have four exclusive maps, that would be solely populated by other people that bought the game from the same shop as you?
  • Murton #31 2 years ago

Machetazo: exactly. Day one DLC of a map pack, and as a general rule multiplayer map packs don't do very well as DLCs so this "bonus" is pretty poor and certainly not worth the jump in price over play.com's skin unlocks (I think these will likely be earned rewards unlocked early) or even a standard version, especially if the supermarkets repeat their recent shenanigans and undercut the games retailers on this highly anticipated release.

Looking at some of the more negative comments it would appear that this game is being criticised early purely because Rebellion released a poor title recently (Rogue Warrior is widely regarded as one of the worst games of last year) and because they've recently been mentioned in the news as shutting down a failing studio. I on the other hand am pretty confident based on what I've seen that this will be a good game, that is as long as the marine campaign has retained the atmosphere and tension that existed in the first two games in this franchise.
  • the_exile #32 2 years ago

Recent relevant Rebellion record courtesy of Metacritc

    FPS
    Rogue Warrior - 30%
    Shellshock Bllood Trails - 30%

    AVP License
    AvP: Requiem (PSP) - 49%

Why would Sega fund this developer? Perhaps he can invite us all in to play test a great up and coming Sega game like Shenmue 3 or Jet Set radio 3. Oh wait.

    Saaaaaaaaaaaaaygonnnnnnnnnne

  • ChocNut #33 2 years ago

Looking forward to this! Don't care which version.
  • beatwolf #34 2 years ago

And don't forget that Rebellion made the original.. which was fantastic.
  • muscleblade #35 2 years ago

Console is not automatically worse than PC for FPS. That's such an elistist opinion. I personally prefer controllers to mouse/keyboard. It's a matter of opinion. PC elitists really need to get off their high horses.

"Sad thing is that even with the PC price of £17.99 they still wont sell as many as the consoles... and people still cling to the hope that the PC market is doing fine... cant see how companies can continue to do this for the long term."

True PC version wont sell as much as console versions, but that doesn't mean the game wont sell enough to turn a decent profit. There is no license fees to pay for PC like there is for 360/PS3. "Not doing as well" is not the same as "failing"

And anyway no one can say just how well PC games are selling until all digital distribution outlets are counted in sales. Comparing retail to retail is not a fair comparison.
  • BiscuitBase #39 2 years ago

I'm definitely buying every edition of this game on every format

Using both consoles and PC I have sorry but it's always the case PC comes out better in most things these days, not elitist just fact the hardware on PC constantly changes and improves (IF, of course, you want to invest in it). AvP at the Expo on 360 "looked" iffy to me TBH (but then so did 360 L4D2), and the devs themselves said the PC version of AvP is going to new levels using DX11 (not taking anything away from the console versions of course).

Oh, and BTW the old K&M is a silly argument these days as most support the windows controller. ;)

/ shoots an evil look at IW and Bioware

Have had a shot a this last month, SP is sweet and brings you that nasty why-is-it-so-dark-inhere-and-WTF-was-that-noise feeling. Gold for goosebumps!
The MP is a good mixture too, loved Infestation (horde/kill-all mode). Aliens are fast, Predators are omnipotent and Marines are...marines. Brutal finishes and nice weaponry should give consumers hours and hours of fun/terror.
    @ brod 20/01/10 @ 01:43
You should be lucky that it's being released in Oz, due to the dodgy regulation that ACB sets out for Oz (MA15+ is Oz's highest rating for video games. The USA (ERSB) has a 17+ and Adults Only rating.Europe (PEGI) has 16+ and 18+ ratings.

I am a PC gamer who also prefers to use a controller, if it doesn't work by default then I make it work!.

The point is thr PC version will be 1080p, 8x AA, vsynced DX11 goodness (hardware permitting) that is certainly better than the consoles.
  • makeamazing #43 2 years ago

@FooAtari what i was trying to suggest (but put it across badly) was even at a greatly reduced price, the PC version wont sell, but unfortunately will be pirated to the hilt... sales of the PC version could be great, if people just purchased the game.... the excuse some pirates use about the price of PC games is aload of rubbish these days when the PC game is alot cheaper than the console version.
  • madgerald Verified Studio Head of PR & Marketing, Colossal Games LTD #44 2 years ago

As promised, here are those all-important system requirements:

    Minimum Requirements:
    Windows 7/ XP/Vista
1 GB System RAM (XP)/ 2 GB System RAM (Vista)
3.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4/Athlon 64 3000+ or equivalent processor
DirectX 9.0c compliant video card with 128 MB RAM (NVIDIA 6600 or better, ATI X1600 or better)

    Recommended Requirements:
    Windows 7/ XP/Vista
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 or equivalent processor
    2 GB System RAM
DirectX 9.0c compliant video card with 512 MB RAM (NVIDIA 8800 series, ATI HD2900 PRO or better)

Well thats a valid point(ish) but its a whole other argument. Involving things such as every download is not a lost sale, and there are some people out their who do buy the game if they liked it. But I really don't want to get into that one for the nth time.

From what I've read and seen so far, albiet not first hand, haven't had a go yet, this look awesome. Hunter edition pre-ordered.

Your personal preference doesn't change the fact that keyboard and mouse has always been, is, and will always be a better control scheme than a gamepad for first person shooters. Also, as others have said, there are so many more reasons why most multiplatform games are better on PC. You can continue to ask for the silence of PC gamers so you can keep pretending that your choice to buy a console is the best choice, or you can buy a gaming PC and join us.

For what it's worth, I own a gaming PC and a 360. The 360 is for the games that don't come out on PC. The PC is for games that don't come out on consoles as well as all multiplatform games.

I agree, I think Im just going to buy the edition from play.com, that way I can get the four maps from PSN and can ditch the idea of the special edition that isn't special as it has silly plastic prints and a plastic predator??

I already have a plushie life size facehugger replica - http://ww w.toynk.com/product/2501B/Alien... - so standard retail version for me - can't wait for this one though!
