Rocksteady to make more than Batman

New owner Warner has made plans.

Warner's newest purchase Rocksteady Studios will be put to work on more than just new Batman: Arkham Asylum games.

UK president Josh Berger told VG247 he "hopes" to have the developer work on "other Warner Bros. intellectual properties" in the future too.

Warner's catalogue includes mammoth IP like The Lord of the Rings and, more recently, Mortal Kombat.

Rocksteady is currently working on a sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum, which currently has no release date. There's no word on whether the studio will be developing more than one game simultaneously.

    Hmmm, I hope Warner don't make them rush out games every year. One of the main reasons Batman was soo good was because it looked like they put alot of time and effort into making it great.

    They did an awesome job with the Batman franchise, maybe they could do the same for the lord of the rings. Lots of game potential there, but nobody ever quite managed to turn it into a good game

    My god I hope Rocksteady make a Mortal Kombat game, that would be full of win.

    Batman AA was great fun, and very well made. If they could do the same with Lord of the Rings that would be pretty cool. Mind you, I don't think I'd particularly want to simply plod through the film / book. Let us do something else in Middle Earth perhaps.

    Anyway, as long as it's welll made and fun to play, that's the most important thing.

    Hopefully not, but you never know...

    I guess as DC Universe is already on the way that'll be unlikely. Hopefully anyway.

    Mortal Kombat - the action adventure. Pitting you as your chosen character in a third person world of kickass.

    Please?

    @SAMagic

    It would NOT surprise me at all, an MMO style game.

    Oh, and on a more stabbing note...

    I'd like to see a sequel to Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks using the B:AA combat engine, that would be epic!
  • Skandalle #11 2 years ago

    Hopefully they respect Rocksteadys method in game making, as i thought Batman AA was an amazing turn for Bruces franchise. If they could do something similar to the Lord of the Rings games, i will be a happy hobbit!

    Coop Mortal Kombat shaolin Monks style game would be very nice indeed.

    Why did 2 complete fuck-tards give me negative feedback?!

    The "YAYYY FOR CAPITALISM!" remark I made is called 'sarcasm' and it means that yet another small, successful Dev is being bought out by a massive firm only to turn it into a giant fat cash cow.

    It's just shocking how dense some people are.

    I suggest an investment in [link url=http://www.sarcmark.com< br /> ]http://www.sarcmark.com< br /> [/link]

    P.S. They were owned by Eidos, who were owned by Square Enix. It's a successful dev owned by a massive international firm who turned it into a gigantic cash cow being bought by another successful international firm who want to keep that cash cow well fed.

    See, there's the problem. He says nothing to reassure us, that Rock Steady will get to make their own original games, but everything they do make, they will no longer own anyway and will be WB IP too.

    WB have some good IP, but I'd hate for Rock Steady to become just about that established IP.

    Mortal Kombat needs a reboot before I go anywhere near it, let alone others. Especially after that MK vs DC debacle. A game based on Supernatural, though, I could eat up if done well.

    Warner Ruined Rocksteady in less than 24 hours, that's impressive.

    I concur on the Mortal Kombat idea. AA's combat felt brilliantly tactile, and would adapt brilliantly to some MK fighting.

    Whatever you do please don't make the next Batman a GTA-style Sandbox game where you drive around Gotham in your Batmobile doing mundane missions. Arkham's closed environment was one of the reasons it was such a fantastic game.
  • Gearskin #22 2 years ago

    Isn't Ed Boon involved in a new MK? I thought he twittered last Autumn about being in the mocap studio? Saying how they were gonna get banned?
  • SEVQA #23 2 years ago

    @gearskin

    Are you sure he didnt say "...they were gonna get canned?" :)

    Oh and Rocksteady do a Superman game next I dare you!
