Resistance 2 beta will be worldwide News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

25 July, 2008

Insomniac has said that it will be running a public multiplayer beta for Resistance 2 on PS3 later this year and that it will extend to "all territories".

Originally announced as an exclusive part of PSN's downloadable Qore TV show, Insomniac reassured fans via Kotaku that there will be "many ways to get in", including a retail pre-order package in North America.

"For all of you folks outside of North America are up in arms because Qore is NA only, please don't worry," the statement went on to say.

"This is one of many ways to get in, and we plan to make the beta available in all territories, as we need to test all servers and worldwide play. Further details on how to get into the beta will be forthcoming."

We've contacted Sony UK to find out if there are any more details available. According to the original Qore labelling, the beta is "scheduled" for September.

Still haven't tried out Resistance FoM online. No excuse, it's in my console right now. Nice to hear Europes not being royally shafted.

Sounds great - R:FoM was/is a fantastic online game and R2 looks to be even better :)

Being a PS3 owner means you are "meh" about fps tbh.

Or maybe you own both machines and want to try the best of both worlds. Resistance 2 has some interesting features that would be of interest to a fair number of FPS fans.

Why would being a PS3 owner mean you're meh about fps games? It's just as flooded with fps' as the 360.

I've never heard anything bad said about R1's online setup.
Far better the COD4 in terms of arranging games with mates etc. And I'm sure that it (R1) was pretty rushed as a launch title.

Warhawk's still the best I've come across on PS3 for being able to dive into a game with a mate.

But I'm sure R2 will be epic.

What are you talking about?

PS3 is a stong console for FPS games - 360 have Halo, PS3 have Resistance, both have COD4, UT3, etc. which plays the same. Orange Box is best on the 360 though.

I have both a 360 and a PS3, and R:FoM beats Halo 2/3 online in my opinion... far smoother, lag-free, and more solid. Not that Halo 3 is a bad game in any way, I just prefer the faster and smoother gameplay of R:FoM :)

The weapons were a bit sucky in RFOM multiplayer though, didn't translate well from the single player.
I'm actually preferring the look of Killzone 2 to RFOM2, but we'll see.

that's new..., I thought I read here 360 were but shooters and who wanted brainy stuff had to have a PS3 + "FPS sux".

an now in portuguese:

Essa é nova, ouvi falar que a 360 é só shooters e quem quiser algo mais inteligente tem de comprar um PS3 + FPS "chupam".

Online multiplayer isn't really my thing... especially as I still don't know anyone who owns a PS3, nor can I convince any of my Xbox 360-owning friends to buy a PS3.

Looking forward to a demo of the single-player game though as I enjoyed single-player Resistance FoM.
