Red Alert 3 coming to PS3 this March News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

21 January, 2009

EA has said the PS3 version of Red Alert 3, dubbed the Ultimate Edition, will be here in March.

Extras will include five new multiplayer maps as well as loads of videos and trailers. There's some sort of Girls of Red Alert 3 special, plus bloopers footage, documentaries, development diaries and more.

There's even some BattleCast PrimeTime episodes packed in with online multiplayer tips and advice. Rounding off the Ultimate Edition are full profiles of all the game's units plus the official soundtrack.

Interestingly, David Seeholzer, the PS3 development boss, claims this version will have better graphics and performance than presumably Xbox 360 and PC.

Bizarrely, that's all he said about the matter, so we've put the question to EA UK to chase up.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 launched on Xbox 360 (review) last December, and on PC (review) last November. Both turned out decent, and the former in particular took a significant leap forward at making RTS controls feel at home on console.

Most of the headlines surrounding the game were made by the numerous stars dramatising the intervening FMV story sequences, including Hollyoaks pin-up Gemma Atkinson.

We sent roving reporter Ellie Gibson to talk to Gemma Atkinson (on camera) about being in a videogame, which she did, adding her own inimitable brand of questioning along the way. Ellie also spoke to my hero Tim Curry.

In fact, so chatty was our Miss Gibson that she soon found herself trading blows with former Neighbours sizzler Holly Valance, who stars in Red Alert 3 expansion Uprising.

That game, incidentally, will be released exclusively for PC this March. Console versions will presumably follow.

Better graphics and performance that the other versions? I've heard that one before in regards to Bioshock, which seemed the same on both - certainly not better. I'll believe that when I see it with my own eyes.

Apart from that, +1 to what Widge said, I just can't play an RTS without mouse and keyboard.

As you've both said... Keyboard and mouse support would be awesome, but surely better graphics isn;t really possible, well not than the PC as a high end PC will always beat a console hands down...

Wow my first ever eurogamer post...

I might consider getting this at some point (IF it doesn't turn out to be a shoddy, half-assed port), haven't played a C&C game since Red Alert 2. KB&M support would just be the icing on the cake IMO.

Any truth to the rumour that you can only play the game five times before you have to phone up EA for permission to play it again?

Discalceaterabbit: What a load of rubbish - where did you hear that? The truth is that you have to phone EA five times before you are allowed to play it once...

Like others have said, I'd consider buying it if it included keyboard+mouse support...

Wait, "console versions will presumably follow". I thought Uprising was a PC exclusive.
