Record of Agarest War coming to PSN

It's an SRPG from Aksys Games.

A new SRPG titled Record of Agarest War is on the way to PlayStation Network.

It's set in "a gorgeous, expansive world of hope and despair", according to the press release, and will offer over a hundred hours of gameplay. Playing as lead character Leonhardt, you get to wage war against the forces of darkness, take a bride - "actually, several brides" - and "give birth to the hero of the next-generation".

There's a collaborative attack system so you can string together combo moves using multiple party members. A feature called Link Gauge will track your actions and the game will unfold differently according to the way you play. "Will you get the blonde girl or the red-head?! YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!" How exciting.

According to Michael Manzanares, producer at publisher Akysys Games, "This is one of those titles where morbid curiosity really hits you once see some screenshots. Instead of being nothing but cheesecake, Record of Agarest War turns out to have some length and girth to it. Colour us surprised."

Record of Agarest War is slated for a Western release this autumn.

I predict this will be the best game with suggestive images of girls eating bananas released on the PS3 this year!

Incidentally Eurogamer, are you sure you're not getting the US and EU versions mixed? The US is getting a PSN version, the EU is getting a retail version (now with less horrible cover art) and a collectors editions version that's being published by Ghostlight.

Aside from the *cough* obvious selling point, is this game at least any good? I wouldn't mind a decent SRPG.

Played the JP demo so kinda knew what to expect. Graphically it's okay, with great images used for the dialog parts etc, and lower-res sprites for the combat (a bit like Disgaea).
Voice work is all in Japanese, the localization only touched the text aspect it seems. English text seems to be OK although there was a glaring spelling error ("avaliable";) in one of the very first tutorials. Not played very far yet so can't say if things get better or worse; but as long as it doesn't pull an Ar Tonelico 2 I'm happy :D
If you're only getting one SRPG for the PS3, Disgaea 3 would probably be a better choice, but (so far) this seems decent enough.

One minor thing: no trophies! It's understandable given that it's an older game now finally seeing a western release, but still it's a shame (and with trophies, it would probably sell more as well).
