Pro Evo to work with motion control tech

Seabass looking at Natal and PS3 wand.

Future instalments in the Pro Evolution Soccer series could work with new motion control technology such as Project Natal and the PS3 magic wand.

That's according to series creator Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka, speaking to IGN.

"Up until 2009 we believed all the platforms should have the same controls and features. That's no longer the case because there are specific controllers for different machines, what with Natal and the PlayStation motion sensor system," he said.

"I cannot say much, but I can say we are looking at integrating those devices into our games very aggressively."

Of course, it wouldn't be the first time a PES game worked with a motion controller - the series has already appeared on the Wii, scoring a healthy 8/10 off Eurogamer. Read our review for the full lowdown.

As long as FIFA which has evolved into a most beautiful series, is not messed with then I am happy. I dont mind NATAL and the PS3 motion control tacked on but only as alternative control method.

I didn't enjoy the motion control for Pro Evo on the Wii so I'm not looking forward to this so much. As long as they give you the option to use a normal pad or motion control.

Wasn't the only bit of the wii games that used motion controls the dreaded waggle to shoot mechanic?
IR was fine but motion controls weren't.

Well when it comes to Natal, more than shooting penalties I see no other use for it at all that would be easy and usefull. I dont wanna start running around the place. tyvm. As for the wand.. I wouldnt wanna be shooting nor passing the ball by shaking my hand as if a fly is stuck on my hand though I guess some might find it .. convinient or interesting?!?! I just really hope that they ALWAYS work and perfect the controls with the basic controllers and then add the motion crap instead of end up ruining the game.

I think you used the pointer thingymibob to point where you wanted another player to run or where you wanted the ball to go whilst controlling the player that had the ball with the other nunchuck thingymibob.

dont want this tbh,PES is fine with a normal pad and probably far more precise.

In my opinion, PES on the Wii is easily the most authentic, precise and enjoyable football game on any system. It actually plays like football, if that makes sense, the level of control is pretty awesome. Sure it has its faults, but they've started to iron those out with the updates.

I'm amazed that so many 'gamers' are so dismissive (or completely ignorant) of it to be honest, if they somehow implemented those controls into the 360 version people would be going crazy for it.

    This.

PES Wii is actually a fantastic game which was initially let down by some ropey player AI (especially when defending) and bizarrely imprecise shooting - both of which were partially remedied in last year's release.

The core mechanics are absolute genius and once mastered, arguably provide greater scope for tactical depth and variance than any other football title to date. Vastly underrated (no doubt due to it's host platform being somewhat unfashionable among 'hardcore' gamers) it is one of the best sports titles in this generation IMHO.

I wonder how the PS3 wand/pointer would cope without a nunchuck-style peripheral for the additional controls. Can't figure how Natal would be implemented in a way that would add any real value either - though that's probably why I'm not a game designer.

    Yep. Precisely that.
I really like the wii versions of PES (and I agree they are under-rated by footy fans who you'd think would've loved them) but it's the IR that makes them good, not motion controls as such.
I was just pointing out that so far Konami hasn't done motion controls in a game yet, largely.

I'm still looking forward to seeing what is possible on the PS3 and 360 regarding motion controls and footy.
Let's face it, normal PES has pretty much run its course on those formats, for the time being.
