Big fat ArmAII patch released News

PC News by Robert Purchese

6 August, 2009

Bohemia has patched up top-notch war game ArmA II, re-wiring computer-brains and tweaking the multiplayer and co-operative campaigns.

Building destruction has been improved, thank goodness, and grenades no longer topple them by impact alone.

A full and exhaustive list of improvements, additions and fixes can be found on Steam.

Excitement.

So what about those of us who have the standalone (a.k.a. non-Steam) version? When do we get this patch?

This and GTA IV are the only games my computer can't run at an acceptable framerate. And I paid for this. Don't suppose a patch is gonna fix that.

Still my CPU is very old so can't complain too much I guess.

@Darren, non-Steam patch is here: http://www.arma2.com/support/updates/fol...

Finally a reason to give this another bash. Hopefully they've dumbed down the enemy a.i at distance and improved the squad a.i at close quarters. Fingers crossed.

Performance is still horrible - game is very CPU-bound. Although I can get 60fps with everything on high in a 'blank' mission, the campaign runs at 20fps :'(

Just yesterday I installed the 1.02 patch, which didn't do anything for me, performance wise. Maybe this one will boost it a bit.

i wish they would fix the wonky movement feel and slow mouse response, otherwise i'm tempted as it's only £18 on play now

In about another 3 patches, i'll consider buying this, by then it should be just about in the fit and proper state that it should have been at launch...

Is there a demo? I would like to try it on my PC before splashing the (admittedly low) cost of entry on a game that appears to have been released in a poor state.

Wish I'd tried it first but I was excited about the game and rushed out to buy it.

Just been through the patch notes & it seems to cover everything that needed fixing.

Looking forward to giving the single player another bash as it was srsly broken before, unplayable in parts, as was the co-op campaign.

The rest of the multiplayer worked brilliantly though & Ive been a part of some epic battles over the last few months

I play this almost exclusively multiplayer. I do know that the singleplayer bit is rather borked in some parts. I don't know why but the performance when running the campaign is sometimes pretty appalling. I have good performance online though, not saying work could be done there too.

Some very desired fixes in that patch anyhow, especially the "stuck on receiving"-thing.

Downloaded the demo. Played for 5minutes... cannot believe this is a game for 2009 :D

Okay, so I didnt expect amazing production values, I know that is not what it's all about by my 'brief' experience led me to believe the game constantly reminds you its a low production value game... the voice acting... character movement... AI movement... gah.

Too harsh?

It's at least obvious that you spent 5 minutes in the game.
