PGR4 soundtrack listing
Plus details on Proj title music.
Bizarre Creations has detailed the 57-song soundtrack for Project Gotham Racing 4, due out exclusively on 360 from 12th October.
PGR4 is also fronted by an exclusive song written and performed by The Prodigy called Shadow, which plays on the various menus and over the credits.
Cleverly, the sound team isolated little loops of the electronic track and made it so that entering a new menu initiates a slightly different phase of the song, giving you the sense of progressing through a tune rather than just listing to a jingle on repeat. It's like Rez for menus, innit.
What's more, if you stick around on the main menu for long enough without doing anything, the game just starts jamming, spitting out variations on Shadow with gay abandon.
Elsewhere on the soundtrack, there's a familiar mixture of various genres and styles, and the game will allow you to switch playlists off and on by genre, or individual song within a genre playlist, so if you don't like hip hop but do enjoy a particular song, you can make sure that stays in the mix.
It's all part of a push to avoid having people race in and opt for custom soundtracks - although this being 360, that is of course an option.
For more on the audio side of Gotham, as well as all the other sides, watch the site in the coming days. The full track-list follows. Apologies for typos if there are any - the bloody train is swinging from side to side whose bright idea was that.

Looking at that list... well I don't recognise 99.8% of the songs but there's always a custom soundtrack so it doesn't really matter what the music is like really.

Metropolis Street Racer had such great, original, music, too. Perhaps it's time to knock all of this licensed music nonsense on the head and get games studios to hire musicians to write tunes specifically tailored for the game experiences again.

I will listen to these for a while, but your own music collection residing on you MP3 player is always going to be bigger, and more to the individuals taste.

Thats exactly what I was thinking too actually, its a bit annoying hardly hearing the songs whilst driving in PGR3.

That's a FTW track if ever here was one - top choice \o/

It's a fair point that many users will prefer to use a custom soundtrack, but maybe the tracks available in PGR4 will expose people to music they may not of heard otherwise. And that's probably how they approached the record labels when it came to track licensing.

I like the PGR soundtracks... I don't necessary like all the styles though, so it's great to be able to switch easy at a touch of the d-pad!

Bring on PGR4 just so i can hear this wicked tune.

Not interest in all that indy/pop/rock milarcky.

So true.
Not a fan of dance music, the main music theme for MSR is a classic and perfectly represents the game (and was so different at the time, compared to all the rock tunes all the other racing games used).

I have to agree.. shame the rest of the album doesnt have the same affect in your own car.

Although I personally switch off the music during races (annoyingly in PGR3 this also meant it vanished in the menus too.. separate menus and in game audio volumes please!!). I just can't concentrate the same if it changes from a good track to just something you're not in the mood for, then by the time you change the music you've lost 'the zone', so no music is better for me, plus I need the audio feedback especially to help drive better.
Semi related but my god am I bored of Forza. It's great in terms of the driving but the career mode is a huge drag. Someone needs to do something about continually racing anonymous events selected in a bland selection screen and just make it more engrossing, more alive, and far more realistic and believable in terms of the events you're taking part in etc. And no I'm not quite sure how that is to be achieved but they're the game designers, not me. At least Forza has stopped me from desiring a PS3 since the only game I want on that is GT5 but I cannot deal with endless shit races and upgrades. Roll on something good like GTR2 (on Xbox EVER???)
PGR4 for the arcadey yet well handling win!

>Never heard of any of them, besides the classical stuff. Modern music sure does suck ass.
So, because you have never heard of any of them (and thus I would venture never actually heard/listened to any of them) then they suck ass. Brilliant.
I hate the taste of Iguana's.
Not that I've ever tried to eat the aforementioned lizard...

+1
Mind.In.A.Box worth a listen too, and fit the bill for this type of game perfectly.

Fucking hell. How many people are actually going to have the chance to even play even one of the devs, let alone play a whole bunch of them at the same time, AND beat them? Who the bleedin hell thought that was actually a good idea?
Comment below viewing threshold Show
You can also get the achievement by beating any player who already has it.
