Project Gotham reboot on the cards

Microsoft looking for suitable developer.

Microsoft is apparently in talks with a number of developers regarding a makeover of the dormant Project Gotham Racing franchise.

According to Develop's sources, the platform holder has held meetings with various European independent studios regarding the revamp but is yet to settle on a developer.

The last game in the series, 2007's Project Gotham Racing 4, was made by Bizarre Creations. The Blur developer forfeited the reins when it was bought out by Activision later that year.

Following that acquisition, Microsoft commented, "Project Gotham Racing is a signature racing franchise for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live and we plan to continue the series but we have nothing further to announce."

Time to start speculating? Last month, OutRun and Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing studio Sumo Digital told Eurogamer, "If you look at the kind of products Sumo has done in the past, arcadey, handheld, racing, we're still there. We're doing some great work.

"They're doing one project that's very bleeding edge, that's probably a year and a half still from market, but when it comes out people will appreciate it's very different - that's being sponsored by a big hardware company."
