Peter Moore: "Future couldn't be brighter for FIFA"

EA Sports is "never satisfied".

EA Sports trouser-wearer Peter Moore has said with "supreme confidence" that the future "couldn't be brighter" for the next instalment of FIFA.

He was turning over the performance of his division on Peter Moore's Internet diary, which usually focuses on US sports, and revealed he was "never satisfied" and would be hitting this year with more innovation and quality than ever.

And, if he turns out to be wrong, he's toying with the idea of getting another tattoo.

"Some people don't like the heat. I actually love it, and it's been inspiring for me to see that our teams here do as well. Our teams are talented, passionate and motivated. It's a changing marketplace and they're responding to the demands of our consumers by developing some incredible products for the season ahead," said Moore.

"I'm not surprised that NBA Live, which jumped 15 points in review scores [from] a year ago, has the most ground-breaking feature from our line-up this year and we'll unveil it next month at E3. And I'll say with supreme confidence that the future couldn't be brighter for two of our most critically acclaimed products from a year ago - FIFA and NHL.

"We're never satisfied," added Moore. "There's always more we can do. It's what we love about our business. I hate to sound like a cheerleader, but the facts are the facts. And I don't expect them to change any time soon.

"We're hitting this season in terms of quality and innovation stronger than we ever have at EA Sports. If I'm wrong, you'll see me sporting a new tattoo - maybe a competitor's logo?"

Yes, if you could get one for Activision Blizzard that would be lovely.

Peter Moore left Microsoft for super-publisher EA last summer, and his role as president of EA Sports has apparently been ever so successful so far.

Seven of his titles managed to break the one million mark last year, we're told, with three of them making the industry top 20 for the whole of 2007.

FIFA 08 continues to perform well in Europe, finishing at 10 in the UK all formats chart months after its original September 2007 release.

I'd love to see how FIFA09 turns out.

FIFA lost it's way at the start of this gen but 2008 and Euro have really improved and it is better than PES now in gameplay stakes. Mind you FIFA has always been better for me (inducing many PES vs FIFA arguments with mates), I just can't stand the terrible presentation and silly names of PES. FIFA has always offered a complete package even if some earlier FIFAs didn't match PES in gameplay.

Personally I've given footy games a break in the last couple of years (bought every FIFA since 96) except for demos, but I'm really looking forward to FIFA09 later this year.

I've got a really good feeling about FIFA 09. I think it's going to shit on PES from a great height.

I'd be happy with FIFA08 with updated teams and the better passing/control/team AI mechanics from EURO2008, anything else is a bonus.

I just hope they don't try to fix what wasn't broken.

I was always a PES player, for the joy of the awesome slick engine, but always wished I had the presentation and licencing of FIFA.
With FIFA continually rolling out updates and improvements, the PES boys have been caught napping somewhat. Its a bit like the way Intel suddenly overtook AMD recently in the "good processor" stakes!

Lets hope he gets a Seabass tattoo, on his face

Fifa would be grand, if they FIXED THE GORRAM SERVERS.

Bout a week now, me and everyone on our friends list have been unable to get a Be A Pro Game going, americans dont see to have the issue though :(

Oh, and tbh all they need to imrpvoe upon is that, and teh stupid crab run strikers employ when they're retardedly watching the ball go over their heads, and keepers inability to grasp they jump up, not back when the ball is directly above their heads, also leaving it to the last minute to collect the ball when i've told him to come out is pretty dumb to.

So yeah, fix that and we're on baby.

think Be a pro has heaps of potential but really needs some sort of team function. Team play is hard to build when its different teammates most times u play. Once it goes full 10v10 especially

gotta give it to EA, they are taking the heat to konami when it comes to soccer games anyway, am say this cos fifa 2001, was the last fifa game that spent money on and been getting the pro series ever since, that was until last year when i tried out the "be a Pro" feature and loved it, even better in Euro 2008, but thats about the only thing i'mgood at when it comes to fifa.I'm still a die hard pro fan, amd if seabass sticks to his words from last year saying that this years installment is gona be something new then i'm real excited....

For the first time ever I preferred Fifa over PES; 08 was very good.

Looking forward to what NBA Live has to offer this time around.

Agreed, for the first time in about 10 years I bought a FIFA game over PES, 08 on 360 was a huge improvement. However I ended up buying the PC version, as my 360 is currently living a long way away from me.

Dear god the PC version is taking the p***. Peter, do you want to employ humans to work on the PC version in future? I feel you have stretched the blind monkeys talents a bit too far already. Menus - pathetic. Graphics - Last Gen. Controls - Last Gen. Brilliant. On-screen "help" is beyond a joke - press the "4" button. WTF is the "4" button? Its not the "4" button on the keyboard, and anyway you know I'm using a joypad, I have to tell you that at the start of EVERY GAME. How about telling us what the "4" button is? IE the "Shoot" button, the "PASS" button, anything!

Oh and the manual. I guess this is the same for every version, but lordy. What a waste of paper that is. Yes, I know, you don't usually need the manual, but when the menus are that bad, and the on-screen "help" is that obscure, you have to look. Only to find a load of crap.

Please, can I have my 25 quid back now? I paid for a game, you know like the 360 version?

FIFA08 was the best football game ever. FIFA09 hopefully will improve matters still.

Haters may regard EA as an easy target, but I think they are one of the gold standard flagship brands in videogames. More so than Nintendo, konami, Capcom and Sega.
  • morriss #14 4 years ago

Go back to MS, Pete. They need you.
  • bad09 #15 4 years ago

Gotta agree Nick_JC1, they are not the powerhouse they once was.

UN Squadron was Capcom though wasn't it?
  • DarthKebab #16 4 years ago

They do seem to be listening to feedback and improving, I just feel the releases are too frequent (Fifa/World Cup/Road To/Champion League/Euro) to improve to the levels of pure sim feel that the old WE/PES games had (not this gen in other words)
  • agparrot #17 4 years ago

Oh, are they making another FIFA game?
  • Tweakmonkey #18 4 years ago

This gen is still up for grabs, but there's absolutely no doubt at all that PES owned last gen.
  • tinners #19 4 years ago

Im sure i read that another team is making fifa 09 and they want to make it just like pro evo.......so there you go if thats true proof that EA aint got a clue, Euro 08 was almost football perfection....back to loving pro i guess seeing this isnt going to make me wanna buy a pro clone.....clearly they dont listen to what fans they have got.

I have to agree that if FIFA can tweak a few more aspects of the gameplay, it'll trump PES on the three categories of presentation, licence and crucially playability. At least on the the 360 and PS3.

But the silver lining for Konami is that they pulled a masterstroke with PES on the Wii and are miles ahead of EA in that respect. Granted, it still has its quirks (defending is too random), but controlling off-the-ball movement with the Wii-mote feels so right.

Is everybody oblivious to FIFA presentation sucking hard? I mean okay, PES 2008 tries to compete via a shitty, needlessly gimmicky (dare I say 360-y) menu structure and whatnot, but at least you have some degree of actual control over your formation (the standard ones FIFA lets you choose are absolutely awful and have been for the last couple of years), the player stats research isn't that embarassingly bad (see the UEFA 08 demo - only two teams, but the stats couldn't be much worse) and especially on the PC, you can apply a bunch of patches to your PES (Kitserver and whatnot) to fix whatever lacking licenses there may be and to get the player stats of your choice. The easiest way for FIFA to greatly improve would thus be to steal attributes PES had since the early 2000s.
