Peggle, Resi and CM2009 on App Store

Fever, viruses and hooligans.

Sharp-eyed iPhone and iPod Touch owners may have noticed that it's been a bit of a bumper period for "name" brands on the App Store, with Peggle, Resident Evil and Championship Manager all taking a bow.

PopCap's long-awaited handheld version of Peggle goes for GBP 2.99 and promises 55 levels and 40 Grand Master challenges to test your pointing and watching.

Resident Evil: Degeneration, meanwhile, is GBP 3.99 and based on the CG film of the same name. There's an on-screen analogue stick for movement and contextual buttons on the right of the screen for shooting, knifing and opening doors, among other things.

As for Championship Manager 2009, it's GBP 3.49, and has a 2D match engine and an interface redesigned to suit the touch-screen. You can check out our Championship Manager 2009 iPhone gallery to see how it looks.

Look out for some of these (possibly) in our next iPhone Roundup.

On screen analogue stick for Resi?
Can no one see how funny that is?

They have to emulate real controls on the device because it doesn't have any of its own. Rather amusing.

Mini-review: Champ man is awful. Probably the worst thing I have bought for the iphone.

Apple should stop restricting apps because they are a bit rude. Instead they should start restricting apps which are practically unplayable because they are hurriedly ported from another OS.

It's poorly laid out, horrible to use, completely unclear and uses very few of the basic iphone interface choices.

It's also badly researched. Ledley King is a right back, Steven Gerrard can only play on the right ...etc

    Avoid.

I thought Peggle had been out on IPods since the year dot?

Just downloaded Peggle and it's more or less a perfect conversion of the game. An absolute steal at £2.99.

@jonsaan—Peggle's been out on the standard iPod, but not iPhone/iPod touch. They're totally different platforms.

@superdelphinus—there's nowt wrong with 'recreating' analogue controls, if they work. Check Dropship for an excellent example of 'anywhere' analogue dual-thumb controls.

About as amusing as poor people who can't afford iPhones, desperately taking whatever cheap pot shots they can.

Anyway, every previous iteration of Resident Evil has had famously shit controls - why should the iPhone version be any different?
