Avalanche Studios has revealed that it plans to release PC and Xbox 360 demos of its upcoming action title Just Cause on August 24th.

Published by Eidos and due out in the autumn, Just Cause throws you into the role of a field operative charged with bringing down a corrupt South American state in possession of WMD (what are the chances?)

Avalanche promises a free-roaming game style that allows you to approach your missions however you like across 250,000 acres of San Esperito, and from what we've heard it's shaping up very nicely.

Mind you, that was based on listening to some friends tell us about the special parachute function built into the preview code, which allows you to spawn yourself about 50,000 feet up in the air and then freefall - but we're sure the game's good too.

And it won't be long until you find out. The full game's due out on PC, Xbox 360, PS2 and Xbox.

I remember reading about this game some time ago, but then it fell off my radar... so quite an unexpected surprise to see a demo on the way in only a week. Certainly one I'm thinking of getting, hope the demo's good.

the game looks good - the video worries me.
it'll have appaling gameplay I expect - sorry just has that 5 min of fun then you realise how badly it does everything look to it.

I really want to play this - the preview in Edge ages ago made it look really good. Although I've got a feeling it'll be either ace or atrocious.

Sounds a lot like the ambitious but highly flawed Boiling Point: Road to Hell on the PC, but more shooty, which is usually a good thing.

Sounds like more fun then Saint's row, as it tries to build on from the GTA model rather then straight copy. And it looks like there's much more interaction with surrounding stuff.

OH NO HE DIDN'T!

but seriously, here's hoping that it errs more towards the side of Mercenaries than, say, True Crime and the lesser GTA clones.

Does no one else have any issues with the ethics of this game? The CIA have an appalingly shadey history of shady regime changing activities.

I know it is very tongue in cheek, but that is kind of like making a lighthearted game about using nazi scientists to develop cold war arms technology in return for amnesty from prosecution for war crimes (ah, which is exactly what the CIA did, silly me).
