New Prey E3 trailer

Now on Eurofiles.

The E3 trailer for Prey, 3D Realms' forthcoming first-person shooter for PC, is now available on Eurofiles.

Prey follows the adventures of a bloke called Tommy who gets abducted by aliens and finds himself aboard a living, breathing spaceship, with only a load of guns and a talking hawk for company.

Weighing in at 128MB, the trailer features more than 10 minutes of in-game footage and we reckon it's well worth a look.

Prey is due out by Christmas. You can read more about the game here, and take a look at some screenshots here.

Yes, it looks pretty, but it also looks dreadfully boring to play.

^...ditto....the only interesting thing about this, was that it was rumored to be running on ATI's R520 Gfx card...sequel to the X800 line and bastard love child of the Xbox 360's gfx chip.

Now you can see what they meant by the portal technology, which to me seems really impressive. I like what they've done with the game but will still be boycotting it due to its racial stereotyping.

Gravity defying tracks very reminiscent of the mag boots in Ratchet and Clank and mag tracks in Metroid.

Overall this still has an air of meh about it, portals and all.

'but will still be boycotting it due to its racial stereotyping'

That's shooting yourself in the foot (or cutting your nose off to spite your face, whichever takes your fancy).

To say an American Indian can't have fictional spiritual powers simply _because_ he's an American Indian is PC gone too far.

Believe it or not, but most races do actually have core cultures and historic roots.

Oh, come on. "Tommy Hawk"? These guys always go out of their way to insult the intelligence of gamers the world over. I needn't remind you of Shadow Warrior, need I?

    According to Scott:
Our research into American indians and especially the Cherokee has been extensive and time-consuming. From the start we believed that authenticity was critical to the believability of the characters and their story arcs. Yes, we're making a dark sci-fi game, but within that context we still want the characters and their mythology to ring true.

I would wait until the game actually comes out before deciding whether to boycott. Shadow Warrior was a deliberate piss-take. It seems they're trying for a more authentic experience with this one.
