Halo 3 documentary coming

The making of the trailer.

In amongst news of all the latest "banhammering" of Halo 2 cheaters, Bungie's latest weekly update notes that we should soon see the release of a documentary detailing the making of the Halo 3 trailer shown off at E3.

"Some of our sharp-eyed fans may have noticed Marty [O'Donnell, composer] hinted at an upcoming documentary on Bungie.net.

"It was supposed to be a surprise, but since the man himself gave it away, we can in fact reveal that we have a documentary short that shows the process and people involved in making the E3 trailer, complete with some never before seen scenes (think angles, really) from the trailer. This was the goodie I had hinted at in a previous update."

We'll let you know when it's out - and we wouldn't be too surprised to see it on Xbox Live Marketplace at some point either.

Bungie said game journalists could have played Halo3 multiplayer at E3, but since nobody asked...

Doesn't this all seem a bit underwhelming to you?

If somone should do a "making of" it should be Kojima not Bungie.
  • Steroyd #5 6 years ago

    a making of a trailor.

dear lord the Halo hype machine is beginning to run it's course.
  • myrmican #6 6 years ago

Dear gods. A press release about an announcement of a making-of a sodding trailer?

Wow....I can't wait to see a 'making of' a trailer, whatever next?

This might come as a bit of a shocker to you, but there actually are ppl who dont give a shit about Kojima games and do give a shit about Bungie games.

"ow, im a person, fighting some god forsaken war somewhere in the future" vs "we are the human race, fighting against anihilation"

On the other hand, this would have been nice if its showed some MP. Might give it a try if its on XBLm, but not really that interested.

    ROFL.

Bring it on! Also, I can't wait for the "Making of the Making of Halo 3 Trailer" next week!!!

By the way, the trailer is ace, and it seems quite nice that a game is getting movie-like hype. However, it would have been nice if the documentary was about making of the GAME, not the trailer.

Too bad I haven't got an X360, though I have enrolled in every 360 giveaway competition known to man. One things' for sure, I am gonna get my 360 and I am gonna get it free!!! Eat your hearts out!!!

    Right.

The making of a trailer! This is what it has come to. FFS just make the game you self-important muppets.
  • Benno #11 6 years ago

    the hype begins....
  • Yossarian #12 6 years ago

news is considerably more novel and shocking than, say, 'EG forumers underwhelmed by Halo 3 news'
  • Tiger_Walts #13 6 years ago

The trailer is made with the game-engine and at E3 that engine was shoing the trailer in real-time on a 360.

In my opinion a making of the trailer is just as good as a making of the game.

Man, how long are they going to be able to stretch that bugger out to?

True, but even if you really like Bungie, you must admit that the Halo3 trailer was kind of rubbish, apart from showing off the visual capabilities of 360.

It was just a short teaser which would not impact development. Makes a lot of sense to me.
  • JediMasterMalik #18 6 years ago

What doesn't make sense is making a documentary about making such a small trailer. With Kojima's trailer there would be alot more to talk about I'm sure.
  • Latin #19 6 years ago

@Les, i think most Halo fans loved the trailer because of all the hints and details that are hidden in the trailer. Sure at first it just looks like master chief walking towards a big structure while cortana seems to have gone crazy, but in actuality there's a lot of information in this trailer if you can be arsed to search for it.
  • Les #20 6 years ago

"but in actuality there's a lot of information in this trailer if you can be arsed to search for it."

well, I really can't. But it would be nice if a trailer made an impression on people who are not familiar with the previous games. Look at the MGS4 trailer. If you didn't play 1 to 3, it's still rather impressive to look at.

But I always thought Halo2 was all about multiplayer, with a simple single player feature tacked on.
  • Talha #21 6 years ago

@Les: Please stop rambling about the MGS4 trailer. I am a big MGS fan like you, but by comparing apples to oranges you are only inviting people to bad mouth our favorite game. Halo is something else entirely, with much less narrative pretence and a completely different storyline and gameplay. Both are excellent in their own way - there is no point comparing.
  • Les #22 6 years ago

@Talha: you're right. I only mentioned MGS4 because it was mentioned earlier in the thread. But you could say the same about almost any other trailer shown at E3.
  • coojam #23 6 years ago

Who, watching the Halo 3 trailer at E3 WON'T have played the first 2 Halo's though? Honestly?
  • Rich72 #24 6 years ago

The one thing I would say about the Halo franchise Vs Metal Gear is that at least there is a game to play in Halo rather than a (boring) movie punctuated by some interactive content.
  • afray #25 6 years ago

I think the H3 trailer was one of the most impressive game trailers I've ever seen -- and I never finished Halo 1 let alone 2. There was more production quality in that trailer than in some complete games.

I'd be interested to see what went into it.
  • SeesThroughAll #26 6 years ago

    Hype, hype, hype.

Fall all we know Bungie can even just relax and stop working on Halo 3, it will sell like crazy even if later on the disappointment exceeds that Halo fans had with Halo 2.
  • morriss #27 6 years ago

For someone who 'seesthroughall' you talk a lot of shit.
  • tengu #28 6 years ago

    He's not wrong though morriss.
  • JediMasterMalik #29 6 years ago

Seesthroughall is totally right. Halo is a huge (overhyped imo) franchise. It's a good game, but doesn't require so much attention.
  • The-Bodybuilder #30 6 years ago

a halo thread is like the beginning of the kenan & kel show...

    "AAAAAAAAAAW, HERE IT GOES."
  • The-Bodybuilder #31 6 years ago

    >"Look at the MGS4 trailer. If you didn't play 1 to 3, it's still rather impressive to look at."

Apples and oranges. Some like to play games, others like to watch movies hidden as games.
  • Bates #32 6 years ago

"Apples and oranges. Some like to play games, others like to watch movies hidden as games."

And some people like to whine about everyone not getting hard for the same games as them :/

"Movies hidden as games"? Fah, Metal Gear is a great game, cut scenes or no, there's no getting away from that I'm afraid, no matter how much you and the rest may like to pretend otherwise.
  • morriss #33 6 years ago

I think it's all about opinions. Halo 2 wasn't a let down for me, it just wasn't as good as 1 and that fact that it's still the no. 1 played game on Live shows that there are millions who think so too. So yes tengu, seesthroughall is wrong. Maybe you and he felt let down, but thankfully your opinion(s) isn't concensus.

    ;)

I hate how any shitty piece of advertising gets called a 'documentary' these days
  • morriss #35 6 years ago

Have you seen the documentary twinfalls? Because you're talking like you 'know' what it'll be like.
