Criterion in website shock

Next-gen Burnout on teh interwoo.

Criterion's launched its new website, giving fans of the studio's franchises a destination to watch for updates on Burnout and Black.

The site will offer "the latest and greatest official news, features and goodies straight from the source. Although we're starting small, this site will evolve and expand as the weeks go on — be sure to check back often!"

So essentially, it's somewhere else you can press f5 all day. You all really need to get out more, you know that?

Criterion's front man Alex Ward said in our exclusive interview today that the EA-owned outfit's currently working on seven projects, so be sure to keep an eye on the site for news of next gen versions of the company's titles.

Or you could just read Eurogamer. Either works, really.

...did this honestly require an entire news story?

    Must be a slow day.

Yeah, Burnout has been milked dry for me too.

I don't like the way Criterion have decided to forget everything pre-Burnout 3. :'(

Where's some info on the likes of TrickStyle, Deep Fighter and so on. *SADSMILEYFACE*

Interesting that they say that Black won't be on the website until 1st December. Does that suggest an announcement of a next-gen sequel 'round then?

I would be very exciting at the prospect of a sequel - especially if they manage to iron out the few issues of the original...

The original Black was garbage. Carnage was the only thing going for it. Missions, level design, AI was abismal. Quite fun for a short time though.

I think that for a first effort Black was pretty impressive.

Overall I found certain aspects of it rather annoying and graphical polish aside I thought it was rather weak when put alongside its peers. But as I said, for a company with no FPS experience they did a pretty good. Criterion have a pretty strong record, so I think that Black 2 has the potential to be special.

    P.s.
A personal bugbear of mine that probably doesn't get mentioned as often as checkpoint positioning and AI, if anyone Criterion side is reading...

    Sort the unlock system out.

Failing to unlock the HARD version of the subsequent level (the most important unlock aspect IMO) because I didn't collect enough side-mission trinkets in the previous level (the very least important gameplay aspect IMO) is just nuts and at that point I simply put down the controller and never went back, driven away by the frustration of having to essentially play the same level again AND do stuff the second time around that I didn't really care about (searching for and collecting seemingly irrelevant and cliched object d'espion is barely fun at the best of times).

I don't know whether it's the fact it was their third iteration or the fact EA got involved, but in two of my favourite games ever, Burnout 2 and TimeSplitters 2, the EA driven sequels just felt like soulless cash-ins and somehow managed to taint the whole series for me.

"...did this honestly require an entire news story?"

    Lets think...

"Criterion's front man Alex Ward said in our exclusive interview today

    Call me a cynic ;)
Although "Criterion in website shock" sounds like a lot more of a dramatic, click-through article header than "slow news day, so we're trumping these guys since they just gave us an EXCLUSIVE!!!111!1one!1eleventy!!1 interview"

Why was this a shock, was it a joke, getting our hopes up for a mundane story.

If so, it was sort of clever.
