Challenging content opens today.

Cryptic Studios has revealed a healthy dose of brand new raid content for Star Trek Online.

This will allow players to join Starfleet's Special Task Force and battle none other than, dun dun dun, the Borg.

The Infected - the first of five raid episodes - is available from today, according to the accompanying trailer. The encounter is designed to be "daunting" and feature "lots of enemies". Only players level 43 or higher can tackle the content and even they will need the help of four friends. Both space and land battles are mentioned.

Your task will be to investigate a Starfleet star base that last lost contact with central command. But along the way you'll soon uncover some nasty surprises, such as nano-virus used by the Borg.

Episodes The Cure, Khitometer Accord, Into the Hive and Children of Khan will continue the story and bring you up against the Queen of the Borg herself. Don't expect them to get any easier.

There's a cluster of screenshots for the new content to look at, too.

So more content for STO in the first month than Champions had in 6. It becomes ever more clear that CO was just a sleazy cash grab to fund other games. Me, bitter? Well at least I didn't get a lifetime sub

Even though the game has its flaws and described as light weight in most reviews I've read, if Cryptic continue to release content like this throughout the lifetime of the game hopefully they can realise the potential of the IP. At the moment I'm still fixated on space combat, hopefully by the time the novelty factor wears off the game will implement more "weighty" features than what it currently has, if not there's always TOR I guess.....

I have to agree that it's pretty light-weight, and has many flaws, but it can be fun to log-in every now and again; not on my most played list, but does get some keyboard & mouse time.

Iin my opinion if you charge a monthly fee for a game you can't make it a drop in and out casual game. For me to justify spending a monthly fee on a game I would have to be playing it at least 4 hours every day and while star trek is fun, during the beta I was just dropping in and out every other day for a few hours. That to me doesn't justify the monthly fee they are charging for this game.

I really want to try out stark trek online as i love star trek however all the reviews mean i really cant justify buying the full game in case i dont like it. I know this is the same for all games however due to the subsciption i cant just pick it playing it again in say a few months.

If they had a trial option or simlier i would definatly try it, A week should be enourgh to persuade me one way or another, for example a trial with WAR made me buy the game and then i played for 2 months. So WIN WIN.

Bought, tried, lockups, boring gameplay, unsubbed. Some original ideas wrecked by bugs, crappy on-foot engine, repetitive space combat and a "cold"-looking interface.

Exactly what I was going to say in response to some of these comments.. I'm a huge Star Trek fan, and somewhat enjoyed the beta. I'm sure I could have had a lot of fun playing it for a bit with some friends every so often. But when they're asking �100 a year, on top of the �40 for the game? No thanks..

Guild Wars worked as a good casual MMO because it was easy to get into, the low level cap meant you'd never fall too far behind other players/friends and there was no subscription tying you down.
