New Prince of Persia confirmed for May
Ubi reveals more details of next instalment.
Ubisoft has confirmed that Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands will hit the shops in May.
The PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii version of the game will launch in Europe on 14th May, two days after it arrives in the US. The other versions (PC, DS and PSP) aren't mentioned, but you can bet they won't be long - the new Prince of Persia movie is also out that month and it's all about the tie-in.
The Forgotten Sands sees our hero exploring a mysterious realm, and fighting to save a mysterious palace from some mysterious evil. He's more acrobatic than ever these days, able to negotiate through traps, solve tricky puzzles and bosh giant bosses. The Prince also enjoys mucking about with sand and can use it to open up new areas for exploration.
Ubi is promising that the Wii version will use "advanced technologies" to offer "a smooth, clear and impressive graphical experience on Wii". There are 15 hours of storyline to enjoy, plus alternative paths, secret bits and unlockables.
You can find some screenshots from the game over on the gamepage.

The last one had everything going for it, a story (of sorts), great art/graphics and sound - the levels generally looked fantastic.
However the game was just one big grind to play, collect a million blimin orbs, fight the same 4 bosses 4 times. I could be remembering it wrong but there didn't seem to be anywhere you needed to actually use your brain to figure out anything...

I suspect that the series will not find it's feet again until they get back the original sands of time director and story tellers. They knew how to spin a yarn that just felt right. I loved how no-one remembered what you did at the end of sands of time. Even the villain was just suprised that you knew his plans rather than somehow retaining memories of the whole adventure. This lent that wonderful lonely hero conclusion to the game. The woman you loved and shared life and death with simply thought you were a nutter who saved her life.

I loved the last one, do that one again.

We'll see in May how this one plays out but personally I'm hoping for something closer to the Sands of Time trilogy than the previous game.
