New Final Fantasy XIV classes revealed News

MMO PC PlayStation 3 News by Oli Welsh

12 November, 2009

The official Final Fantasy XIV site has details on two new player classes for the forthcoming Square Enix MMO: Gladiator and Pugilist.

Both of these are Disciples of War, belonging to one of the game's four disciplines: the others are Magic, the Land (gathering) and the Hand (crafting). Players can switch and develop their class at will according to the items they have equipped.

The Gladiator is primarily a close-range swordsman, and is shown in heavy armour. Gladiators often use shields, but not always. Other weaponry includes throwing knives and the intriguing, bladed Lantern Shield. It's clearly a tank or melee fighter.

The Pugilist is a pure melee fighter, doing the greatest damage at close range with fist weapons, but also proficient with thrown implements like the Chakram.

We already know about three other Disciples of War: the Archer, Lancer and Marauder, although the latter remains something of a mystery, along with the whole discipline of Magic.

Final Fantasy XIV is due for release on PS3 and PC next year.

I think Square should have concentrated on making the next single player FF game, and quick released it after no 13.....

They are, last I heard it was called FF XIII Versus.

There's loads of single player FF games out there, personally I think the online version is due a sequel. The single player games have gradually been getting worse since FFVII anyway. Although I did miss FFIX, which I've been told is pretty good.

@login_name: FFIX was actually one of my favourites. Miles better than FFVIII IMO.

Agrred! IX was awesome and pissed all over the terrible VIII.

I nearly cried when all the black mages were blown up in the airship and Vivi watches them falling to their death.

I agree with that actually. 8 was like a feature length episode of Dawsons Creek\Eastenders.. with plot twists to rival! :P

You guys didnt like FFVIII? Wtf is the matter with you guys? cause the game had normal chars and not Zidane striking with his tail? Are you fn serious? FFIX was way better than VIII? Are you for reals? Holy shit, I think ill have to get the bible with 400MS points from XBL after reading this.. I liked the 9th installment but as a total 8 was better for me.

On topic: I love FF games but im not a fanboy and I like judging fairlyt and not going with the wave. I'll criticize a FF game as much as a Gears, a Halo, a Fable an Uncharted and a CoD as easily. So unfortunately this online FF sounds worst and worst to me. Where is the skill, the time youll put and effort into knowing to make the right moves and steps into your char's progress accodring to his race impacting on his class and that on the skills and even the proffessions affecting a bit the whole thing...? I hate the fact they Made WoW too easy for the noobs: easier lvling, changing race, class , genre. Its like WTF If i need more ill just make a new char. Stop making it easier its no fucking fun no more. And there goes Square... Making it from starters so not tempting for me and this game sounds so simplified.. An RPG doesnt need to be as simple as an action game... Im sorry but I do hope im wrong, but so far to me it sounds like a big dissaster of an MMO.

Edit: I dont remember what i was going to edit. And Im not even drunk o.O
