PS3: all the screenshots News

PlayStation 3 News by Eurogamer staff

9 May, 2006

Last night in LA, Sony took the pre-E3 stage to outline PlayStation's future, and this morning released screenshots to illustrate its vision. While PS2 and PSP featured heavily in the presentation, all eyes and ears were focused on PlayStation 3: all these shots are from the next gen console. Phil Harrison, Ken Kutaragi and Kaz Hiari showed off a regiment of titles expected to make PS3 stand apart from its competitors, so take a good look and get ready for the Nintendo and Microsoft press conferences later on today.

We're going to be adding to this article as we upload more, so check back for updates.

All very exciting this, isn't it?

I've never seen the point of this - we have no way of telling "in game" from "render" and knowing the track records involved you'd need to before getting excited. They all look very nice, admittedly, but it's just that uncertainty over which they are.

Still, it's good to have them in one place I guess.....

"I've expected something more for 600E ;("

welcome to the next gen.

Of all above, only heavenly sword appealed to me. And where are the so called superior graphics of the last e3?

The F1 '06 screens are VERY disappointing, compared to the screens presented last year.

Come on, why are people suprised they dont look as good as last years shots. Enough people were saying then that they were mock ups. How can people contniue to be suprised when Sony deliver less than they promise.

Because they look worse or no better than what we're currently getting on current platforms?

Crikey, i dunno.

If that close up of that chicks face in heavenly sword is real-time then colour me impressed. And the second motorstorm shot could almost be real imo, maybe the front tyre looks a bit dodgy and that suspect sand blur/cloud at front bottom.

Apart from a few games most notably, Metal Gear Solid 4, Eight Days and the Naughty Dog one, most of the other games shown looked very underwhelming and after watching the full conference it seems that the audience were underwhelmed too - how many times did Phil Harrison have to ask people to applaud?

Sony's E3 2005 presentation was much better but then they were showing pre-rendered videos weren't they? I didn't see anything that matched the sheer spectacle of last year's Killzone 2 this year and I doubt we will either, not this generation anyway.

So all eyes on Nintendo and Microsoft then...

I knew that the ps3 would NEVER live up to the hype but I never imagined it'd be so dissapointing.

It's PS2.5

"Mixed bag" is a good assesement. A few bad looking games, including, unfortunately, Warhawk, and a few good loking ones, starting with Heavenly Sword. Motorstorm still looks good, but it would better not have that motion blur in it, because it makes me dizzy even in the shots. I like the idea o Eye of Judgement a lot.
